Default Which one ?

Need some help, I have it down to the ATR 100 in 308 cal. or the marlin 336 in 30-30 cal.

All shot will be between 25 and 200 yards, with most between 50 and 150.
So which cal. would youallgo with?

Although both are very capable of taking deer, i would tend toward the .308.

I'm sure you'll have a lot more confidence carrying the .308 as it's suited for any range you'll encounter plus it'll be accurate enough to thread a shot thru a small hole in foliage if needed.

I have to go with the 308. I dont know much about the ATR but the 308 is a great round.

.308 hands down! You'll have many more ammo options with the .308 as well. If you reload you'll have even more options and can work up some very accurate loads.

I would go with whichever one feels the best to you. Either one will work and I have both calibers and use them both. If you are hunting in LA you will probably have a lot more short shots than long ones. I found out most people buy guns thinking they will be taking long shots but the longest shot I had to make was 165 yards and I used a .35 Remington on it. In west Texas where you can shoot 400 yards the longest shot their I took was 75 yards.

I think you should get a 338 Ultra Mag. Them deer are hard critters to kill at 100 yards. I doubt either will have enough power past 30 yards or so.
