I used Leupold type over the years but I've since gone back to the old Weaver style. I believe this design is stronger than the Leupold design. Not as sleek looking though. But I'll take functionality over looks any day when it comes to shooting.

My son has a 111 in 30-06 and even with the crappy package scope he's getting 3 shot groups smaller then a nickel at 100 yards. And he's just getting used to shooting left handed. He contracted Bells Palsy which has made it almost impossible to close his left eye independanr of his right while at sea in the Navy) I have no doubt the rifle will shoot as well as he is possible of.

If you really want to see what a Savage is capable of look into one of the Model 12's either the Varmits or the Long range series. My Model 12 VLP will shoot 10 shots into .75MOA out to 200 yards. With Winchester factory ammo. I have no doubt that once I develop a load or two for it I'll be looking at a 1/2MOA at 200yards and owning a 1000 yard rifle. Planning on getting into F class with it.

Hard to beat a Savage,, I have he 111 .270 with a Nikon Monarc 3X9X40 BDC.. and a 116 7mm.mag with a Vari X III Lupy 4.5X14X50 long range and both easily shoot .5 groups, I wouldn't mind getting a .243 for some Yote shooting.

i have been shooting long rang target for over 40 years, i have owned several well known custom built rifles and have never picked up and shot any rifle that shoots better out of the box than the savage guns built in the last 20 years
in fact my current long range inventory consist of a pre 64 30-06 winchester model 70 target, rem 700 in 270win, a 7remmag savage tactical

and a 223 savage
