Default Grandson's first shotgun - HA

Was down the local gunshop last night and strolling through the used section I found a neat little 870 youth model 20 ga. with a synthetic advantage camo stock. The price was right so I grabbed it for my grandson for when he gets a bit older (good excuse anyway). Picked up a 20 ga extra full choke. Took it home, disassembled it and gave it a good cleaning. (I think you could have planted a garden it the receiver. Installed the choke and put on a sling. I'm going to pattern it today and maybe try it on a gobbler on Saturday to see how it does.

I'm hoping you're about 6'5" and about 300 pounds...

If you are please take pictures of you shooting a youth size stock! hehe

But I bet the little fella's gonna enjoy that. I still have my first shotgun, aStevens SS .410,and get it out from time to time just for kicks and for the occaisional rabbit/squirrel hunting.

The cool thing is that once he gets older you can put a regular sized stock on there and have a full sized 20ga.( which happens to be my favorite for small game)

metal - no, I'm only 5'9" (weight I'm not saying). But I did pattern it last night at 20 - 35 yds in 5 yd increments and with Win Supreme 3" #5s I still got 8 pellets in the turkey vitals. Although with the second shot with the short stock, I learned to roll my thumb over the opposite side of the pistol grip so it wouldn't catch me in the nose.
Hopefully this little gun won't be wore out by the time the grnadson is ready to use it.

Right now he is 3. He still has a way to go before he can use it but it will be setting in my safe until he is ready. I'm going to be getting him one of those little Cricket .22s shortly. And the ever favorite Daisy Red Ryder so we can practice in my basement. Before I invest in a rifle I have to wait and see if he is going to be a lefty (like me) or a righty like his dad.
