Marlin .17hmr
Hey guys just picked up a new Marlin .17 yesterday. It's has a Stainless Bull barrel and the fancy stock. Just wondered if any of you guys have shot or own this particular gun and how it shoots. I was really in a toss up between this one and the savage but couldn't pass up the deal i got. So what are your thoughts?

RE: Marlin .17hmr
I have a Marlin in 17 HMR but mine is blued and walnut. With the TNT hollowpoints it will shoot under an inch at 100 yards on acalm day, and at 50 yards i can keep five shots touching if not in the same hole. The guns are extremly accurate and i dont think youll be dissappited by your purchase

I just got th same gun, but I haven"t done much for sighting it in, I want to put a different scope on i( it has a black 4x12-32, and I am putting a 3x9-40 stainless scope on it.) Ihave shot it quite a bit though, it is pretty impressive. Shot a couple rabbits and squirrels, alot more damage than a .22 thats for sure. Taking it out prarie doggin in june, pretty pumped. You will like it, only thing I don't like is there is only a 7 round clip available for it, I will be reloading alot when shootin at those p.dogs.

Sounds like a cool gun, how much do Marlins cost anyway? They haven't any prices in the catalog or the website.
Around $400? |
RE: Marlin .17hmr
Bought the Savage 17HMR. Very pleased with it. Accuracy is truly excellent for a factory rifle with factory ammo. My 5 shot 100 yd group was .412".

RE: Marlin .17hmr
I presume that the .22 WMR cost around the same then?
Sounds good, though, I might just pick one up in a couple months. |
RE: Marlin .17hmr
It looks like the HMR is a very accurate little round no matter the brand of gun. Those are bout the same groups I get from my Savage. Funfun caliber for sure.

RE: Marlin .17hmr
The one I bought is priced around $325 in stores, no scope, just rifle. I bought mine from a guy that won it, so I got a real good deal, gun, scope (even though it isn't staying on it), gun case, and 300 rounds of ammo for $300, I think I did fare on this. Savage is a little higher priced, like $250, but they are pretty much the same gun.

RE: Marlin .17hmr
I have a 917V. I looked at the Savage first and was disgusted by the rough finish of the bolt, receiver, etc. Felt like the whole gun needed deburred and was cheaply made. Felt the Marlin and minus the stiff trigger its a real winner. My best friend has the 917VS and both of us can shoot the heads off of tacks at the 60 yard range and honestly probably the 120 yard if I could see that good. I'd recommend the Rifle Basix trigger for it. It makes for a consistent one shot one kill rifle on small game. Mine loves the Federal ballistic tip ammo and the Hornady. Doesnt shoot the rest too well.
