RE: Which rifle scope should I buy?
Put a Leopold scope on a good shooting gun, sight it in and you'll never have to touch it again unless of course you want to change your sight in distance. I have 2 of them on Remington Model 700's 30:06 and 280 calibers. I never have to fine tune them year to year. I've only had the 280 for a couple years but I haven't touched my scope adjustments on the :06 for fifteen years. It always is sighted in perfect every year when I check it out.

RE: Which rifle scope should I buy?
Trey, I shopped long and hard for scopes because I am picky. I own a 3x9x50 B&L Elite 3000 and gave around $270 for it after looking at Nikon, Leupold, Burris, Redfield, and a host of others (money was not the deciding factor). It has very good clarity and all the features of more expensive scopes. I have it on a 7mm and it has worked flawlessly for about 6 years. I would recommend it to anyone.

RE: Which rifle scope should I buy?
Trey,
Optics are sort of like rifle calibers ~ everybody has a different opinion, and the choices can be overwhelming. If you really want to make the best decision to fit your needs and your budget, the best piece of advice I can give you is to read Dr. Wayne van Zwoll's outstanding new book The Gun Digest book of Sporting Optics (Krause Publications, 2002). You will learn what makes optics quality, what to look for in a scope, why some are expensive and some are not ~ all with great hunting stories intertwined. As far as my favorite scope? The Leupold 4x33. I have NEVER found it lacking. Good luck. Tom Greetings from Blue Ridge Country |
RE: Which rifle scope should I buy?
I know what you mean when you say that you can't see a deer at 200 yds with that old weaver scope. I have friends that even have old Loupold verix II's that have clouded up after 10 or so years. I have a Loupold verix III 2.5 x 8 that I bought in 1985 on my rifle and it is still as clear today as it was when I bought it. I know they are expensive now but they are worth it.
