I found a load on the internet where I get 4000fps and i've kill hogs at 300 to 400 yrds no problem
Gosh! Can you post it for us?
I know alot of people who has tried to get 4K with varget and a 55gr BT. But they might hit the speed, but can't get the accuracy. I think it requires a different twist than the typical 1 in 9 or 1 in 10 twist.

A .243 will definitely be my next rifle purchase, although it is going to be a couple of years.

Not to mention that a few here in these forums, self included, consider the 243 a 100-150 yard rifle.
The .243 will do what you need it to do at more than twice that range on medium game in capable hands.

People who only shoot their .243s at targets to 100-200yards are really cheating themselves.

I was able to get pretty good accuracy in the .243 with the 55 gr. Ballistic Tip with only one powder - H414. And the best load was not quite full throttle - but still doing a respectable 3900 with the standard 1:10 twist barrel. I think the ideal twist for this bullet would be around 1:16.

Generally, I like the performance of the 70 gr. Ballistic Tip better than the 55 gr. BT for varmint hunting.

Also, the 55 gr. 6MM Ballistic Tip would be the worst hog bullet on the planet, IMO. They are real explosive. Will blow a sizeable entry hole in a coyote.

Ok so i have a old ruger m77 sittin in the gun safe for like 2 years un touched, maybe longer. i always thought of the 243 as a 100-150MAX yard rifle.
You owned a tool for that long and never read up on it?
hmm.
The 243 Winchester is a bad little man. I dont know why anyone would doubt it for deersized stuff and smaller at ranges farther than the averageperson can shoot. Ifsomeone cant make a 300yrd shot with a 243 then it is doubtfult they are going to make it with any cartridge.

I know rite. Its always been there but there where other guns 30-30 (my fav), 300wsm, 270, 8mm, 7mm, 223, 222, and others that i would grab to use first. Just never crossed my mind.

RE: 243 new respect

I have been gaining new respect for the .243 over the last year as well. I picked up one in a Rossi single shot .243 with a 20 gauge barrel and just love shooting it. It will be my youngest boys gun when he is old enough to start hunting.
