Remington 700 vs. Tikka T3 Hunter

I had pretty much settled on a Tikka T3 Hunter until I looked at the Remington 700 CDL. I mean dang it's a fine looking gun. Prices are the same so what would be the advantages of the TIkka or the Remington besides American made (Remington) which of course is a plus?

RE: Remington 700 vs. Tikka T3 Hunter

No huge advantages to either, really.

The Tikka has a better trigger & barrel...and might be more accurate out of the box on average than the Remington. But theM700 actionis easy to work on, and accurizing it should be no problem.

The Remmy has a nicer stock, and IMHO a nicer feel. But the Tikka is a very well-made rifle, as well.

Pick the one that feels most comfortable in your hands and don't look back. Both will perform admirably!

My brother-in-law just gota T3 for Xmas. This thing is beautiful. The Black / grey laminated wood stock and stainless. Awsome looking and really light. I think it is like 6 pounds or something like that! Seems to be real comfortable to hold, not sure how it shoots yet though!

All comes down to personal fit, feel and features. Both are good choices and more than capable shooters.

I agree Sketter 7MM!! I have both. I bought the Rem new and the Tikka used. Both great guns the tikka fits me better and I like the trigger better also. It all depends on the shooter, both great guns! My son loves the Rem!

You are right on the shear looks of a cdl dang they are pretty I give the edge to the tikka also for out of box accuracy. I have 700's and a tikka you get a good rifle either way so its a draw

How is the trigger on the Remington? I've heard that if you adjust it you void the warrenty. Is that true?

It will most likely be stiff in pull weight(not uncommon of most off the shelf rifles today)but can easily be taken down to a crisp 3lb area pull. If your not inclined to do such a procedure a gunsmith will have it done in a few minutes for $30 or less.

As to the warranty question, have heard they may bring it back to factory specs and possibly charge you for the dis-service;). So I suppose you could take a chance or raise it up prior to sending it back, that is if you'd ever use it. I personally haven't ever sent anything to remington, I did have an issue with my 870 and bluing, whichthey gave me the local service dealer. They took care of what was required by remington andre-blued it on site. Not sure if that is b/c I am in Canada or not??? Not sure what the warranty is to tell you the truth, I thought the 870 was a year only? After the warranty period I'd be using a local gunsmith personally.

Trigger work is the firstthing I do on all my off the shelf rifles. So don't give that much thought, personally.

I love my tikka and is more accurate than any other rifle i have shot (granted, i have limited experience shooting many different types of rifles, but I have tested remington 700s.)

Why not go with one that is guaranteed to be accurate or your money back? they say they take 5 shots with every gun in the factory before they put it on the shelves, and all of those 5 have to be within the 1 inch mark. even though they only guarantee it with 3 shots.

I get less the a 1/4" out of my rem 700. all's thats done to it is a trigger job, and a nice scope.

I think that the Tikka would be excellent value, I'm just not used to how different the stock (hand guard portion) is shaped.

I traded my 700 varmint in for a new t3 stailess syn. in the same caliber.A far better gun than the 700. I have shot about 1000 more shots from the t3 than my 700,and it has a standard 22" bl. To me them finlands know what thier doing. These rifle will out last most of us. This company made some parts for the winchester model 88 action.

Last year I won a rem cdl at a turkey banquet. It is chambered in .270wsm. It has the nwtf logo engraved in gold on it and I just have not been able to bring myself to shoot it yet. I love the feel of this rifle and I even had a trigger job done on it. I think the tikka's are nice rifles but I will never part with my new remmy!!!!!!

I had my eyes set on a T3 or a 116 Weather UNTIL.... I read this article:

http://www.chuckhawks.com/critical_look_T3.htm

I'm not trying to bash anyone's rifle. But this article Really opened my eyes and I thought I would share it. Now I'm looking at wood stocks in Browning and Ruger and Remington. Man I'm glad I'm taking a lot of time doing this.

Don't let one person's opinion turn you completely off the Tikkas. Chuck Hawks site is interesting to read, but he's far from an expert on most things he writes. Infact many of his articles contain factual errors. This most often comes out when he writes about military surplus firearms. His comments about plastic in firearms an free floating barrels are totally incorrect.

I agree with him in that I don't like the one length bolt for all cartridges sizes, but many other rifles share this trait. The four Tikkas I own all shoot sub 1" with factory ammo. They all shoot 1/2" or less with good handloads.

I own 700's now and have owned a small warehouse full of them over the years, but the Tikka in my opinon are superior built rifles.

Yeah, I "used to" think that way too but to be honest what matters most is what YOU like and that YOU get the best quality. That being said, I think anything other then the 710 or 770 from Remmy is good quality along with Rugers M77 rifles. Did I miss any other NA made rifles? Oh yeah, Savage but I worry about the bolt actions on them becuase they stick alot although they areaccurate out of the box! I will still stick with my Ruger however and work on it along with the marksman. I just can't part with exceptional quality.

Along those lines I guess Browning, Beretta, Weatherby, Blasser and God knows what else are also good. Again, it's all in what YOU like.

My stepcousin has a Sako, it is one of the finest out of the box rifles I have ever seen. He also has a Tikka. Great shooter. Just about everyone else has a Remington or Savage. We have all shot each-others guns and only a fewshooters actually benefited from the accuracy of his Sako and only then from a bench.

For the American Hunter ISay Remington.

well ,i own a remington 700 bdl and a new tikka t3. i just got the tikka and shot it this week . the first grps were 3/4 in at 100yds. the rem weighs a full pound more then the t3 and the rem has more recoil. the trigger on my rem is good after being worked, the tikka trigger is very good and needs no adjustments.both of these rifles are 270 win. so far i really think i'm going like the t3 better.

both of these guns are also lefty's as far as price ,about the same.
