RE: muzzleloaders
I'm with Skeeter. I ordered a Savage last year and will never load black powder again!

RE: muzzleloaders
Think I have one of my savages ready to hunt this year.

RE: muzzleloaders
My omeaga likes the 240gr hornady xtp's and 150 gr pyrodex 777 pellets. Devastating on deer and very accurate.

RE: muzzleloaders
Barnes 245gr 150gr Pyrodex pellets. Get pass-through and accuracy.

RE: muzzleloaders
Another Savage shooter here. Most likely I will be shooting 45 grians of 5744, a 250gr XTP, MMP HPH-12 sabots, and Win. 209 primer.
Skeeter, give 42-43.5 grains of VV N-110 a try with thoase 250gr SSTs. I think you'll like the results. Like Duffy says: NEVER USE SMOKLESS POWDER IN A MUZZLELOADER (unless it is one like the Savage, mentioned by Sheeter, that is oked by the manufacturer). |
RE: muzzleloaders
I think the whole point of hunting blackpowder is hunting with BLACKPOWDER! I myself, will not sell out. The smoke stick would not be the same without the smoke.

I am waiting for the mercury to drop and test closer to hunting temp before Ichoosewhich one will be in for Oct 1! |
RE: muzzleloaders
I am aware that it has evolved, but it should only go so far. 777 still smokes and even though no one uses "real blackpowder" anymore, I hate to see it go further than pyro. It still smokes..:D
You're right though, to each his own. No argument intended or anything. I just stilllike to try to duck around the cloud to see if I hit my deer.;) |

RE: muzzleloaders
To each their own. If you wish to hunt BP or substitute and not smokeless then by all means. I enjoy using smokeless in my Savage for the ease of cleaning and performance. I think that we all wish to find the same satisfaction from shooting and hunting, regardless of means.
