Taurus 1911: what a dissappointment....

Well bill the local gun store owner calls me up to tell me the Taurus 1911's are available and that he has 2 and will put one aside for me, he knows ive been wanting to get one. I get there and look at the piece and its a fairly nice gun. Bill gave me a grand total on it of $507.06 I was shocked!! [:@]needless to say I was extremely dissappointed thinking they would be running closer to 400 bucks.

Instead of getting the taurus I shelled out another $117.02 and walked out of there with a brand new Kimber custom II which in my opinion is ten times the gun and deffinately money well spent.

You can't get much gun for $400 dollars anymore. Heck a good revolver could cost that much. If you want a cheap auto maybe look at the highpoints. I wouldn't trust my life to one though.

Sounds like you got a good deal on the kimber though.

Attaboy!

FWIW, You can get a springer milspec for around $400-450. I'd buy a Springfield before a Taurus any day.

Yeh, the Springfield mil-specs are nice for the price. Saw a test on american rifleman tv and it was pretty accurate and reliable out of the box.I was thinking about getting one myself if I didnt have my all germanmadeSig 220 in .45 acp. This pistol is extremely accurate and was a police trade in from CDNN Investments. It was made in 1989 but was in remarkable shape. It will shoot in the same hole at about ten yards off hand if I can do my part. What the heck I may get a Springfield anyhow. I just wish they didnt come with the us engravedgrips on them now. Guess I can replace them. Can never have too many guns.

A pistolsmith on another forum did a pretty extensive torture test on the milspec and it was pretty impressive. He shot thousands of rounds through it in a single sitting and dunked it in a bucket of water in between when it got too hot, IIRC, nothing broke on it and it had no failures.

that sounds like a smoking deal on the custom II. Is that better than the norm? I would love to get a custom II and keep the number of rounds I put through my Colt to a minimum.

hipoints yea right!! im not that cheap LOL. the cheapest I might go is keltec.I do have a taurus millenium pro which is quite the gun for the money I paid $317 for it tax and all. It is very reliable, reliable enough I use it for a concealed carry gun ive put over 3,000 rounds through and have not had one malfunction. when i first got it I gave it a good cleaning and took it to the range and between 2 days I put it through my 500 rounds with no cleaning test and it passed without a hitch. deffinately gave me a different impression towards the quality of taurus. also it feeds LSWC ammo without any trouble either.

I completely forgot about springfields you sure can get some nice ones for around 400 to 450. id deffinately take a springfield 1911 over the taurus 1911.

I had to take the kimber couldnt pass up the deal. I think he was itching to make a sale or didnt want me to leave empty handed because he offered the kimber at his cost. normally a custom II runs for around $650 then after tax it would come out to over $700 bucks, instead of the $624 out the door that I paid.

I would have to shoot the Taurus and run it through its paces before I could call it a disappointment. Kimbers are ok but I am used to shooting tricked out SA's when it comes to 1911's.

maybe the taurus 1911 would perform great, but I am dissapointed in what they cost. I consider taurus to be high quality at an inexpensive price, since im usually on a tight budget I do look at taurus' alot because they are quality gun at a competitive price which their 1911 at 470 bucks is deffinately not a very competitive price in comparison to what you can get from springfield for same money or less or the fact that I got much better gun for just a little over 100 bucks more.
