Thats just it. You may or may not get a much better gun buy choosing another brand. You would only be sure if you can test them head to head in all catagories. I am not saying that your wrong but the Taurus 1911 is still a relative unknown. From my expierence I would buy the SA. But I can't say for sure that it would be a better gun. I love my new Taurus Ultralite 44 Mag. Everytime I take it out I like it better.

Am I missing something? I read the posts and it appears that everyone likes their Taurus handguns very much. Along comes Taurus offering their version of a 1911 and all of a sudden it is as if Taurus has developed leprosy! IMHO, my Taurus 1911 is a firearm worth MUCH more than the asking price. To get a SA 1911 with all of the "custom" features the Taurus 1911 has you would have to pay a bundle! And I do mean a bundle!

Let us not forget that the Taurus revolvers are basically a copy of the S&W and the PT 92's are essentially a Beretta 92f, they purchased the Beretta plant and didn't even change the tooling on the machinery.

Taurus bought the old tooling from Beretta. The tooling that would not pass the US military spec. They also bought alot of the Old S&W tooling. Not the new tooling. I remember when Taurus first started shipping their 92-it was a good product, but it was by no means a Beretta. I am not saying that the tooling was worn out-but you decide. Do you want old used tooling?? Or new tooling, that would obviously have a tighter tolerance??

I sold firearms for years, and I personally saw a lot of Taurus productreturned. Lot's of quality problem's.

You made a smart decision buying the Kimber. If for some reason you needed to sell it tomorrow you would have no problem selling it. If you needed to sell a used Taurus tomorrow the first thing the buyer would think is what is wrong with this one(why is he selling it). Most people would never second guess the quality of a used Kimber. If you do not believe me then take a used Kimber and a used Taurus to a gun dealer and ask him which one he would rather trade for??

Taurus pistol's are what they are. They are a less expensive knock off of a higher quality gun. I am not trying to knock Taurus(As I am sure someone will post), I am just stating the facts as they are. Even if Taurus has greatly increased their quality(which they very well may have), perception is reality. Tom.

That is a non-issue here. IMO, out ofmy 1911s,my Taurus 1911 is probobly the best value.

And that isn't even bringing warranties into the equation. ;)

Well bill the local gun store owner calls me up to tell me the Taurus 1911's are available and that he has 2 and will put one aside for me, he knows ive been wanting to get one. I get there and look at the piece and its a fairly nice gun. Bill gave me a grand total on it of $507.06 I was shocked!! [:@]needless to say I was extremely dissappointed thinking they would be running closer to 400 bucks.

Instead of getting the taurus I shelled out another $117.02 and walked out of there with a brand new Kimber custom II which in my opinion is ten times the gun and deffinately money well spent.
Sounds strangley familiar... Oh wait I did the exact same thing. I was in the market for a 1911 and was really looking forward to the taurus after reading about them and all the hype about em in the magazines. Well whenit finally came game time I wasn't thrilled and spent a little more and got a Kimber as well...Glad I did it, I love that tack driver!

I can honestly say that my PT1911 is a "tack driver" right out of the box (I sprang $520.00 for mine) and IMHO worth far more than what I paid for it and didn't have to do anything to it to get it this way. I own a PT-92 and it's extremely accurate as well. I owned a PT140 and it wasn't worth it's weight in dung as far as groupings go. Personally, I think lemons roll off of ANY "mass production" line and my PT140 just happened to be one of them. Some day I may give it another try, but I think my next .40 cal will be an XD. Perhaps that's why I stake my life on my Glock G33. Glock Perfection.

I'd have saved and gone the extra mile gotten a Les Baer and be done with it. Have been hearing too many ppl having issues with Kimbers.

Why does everyone think that a Springfield that is made in a no-name plant in Brazil is better than aTaurus that is completely forged and made in a quality plant in brazil???Check out the featurs on a Taurus and then go shoot one and then open your mouth

LOL everyone went for the bait. Considering if it was the bottom of the line Kimber which lists for $795 (no night ambi safety)the dealer must have sold it for cost if he let a NEW Custom II out the door for $625.
