I would save my money to get a new rifle if you want to play with a new caliber. Like you hinted, go for the .308, or play around the idea with either .338 Lapua or .404 Dakota for long range, pinpoint accuracy, depending on your optics, rifle make, and shooting ability. Of course, you could always save your money...ya right!:D
