Well thanks to all you guys have responded, didnt mean to get anybody upset over thier opinions, i guess it really doesnt matter what kinda rifle you shoot, as long as you like it and can hit with it, i appreciate all the responses, i think i learned some things that will help me make my decision on this next rifle, will probbaly get in a couple of weeks so i will keep you guys informed and tell you what i decide to get,

Sorry to butt in here, but from my experience I have to agree with you. I shot a 710 in 270 a year or so ago and wasn't all that impressed. I shoot alot of different rifles at the range, being a RSO gets me alot of shooing a year. I have noticed thta almost every rifle out of the box nowadays shoots 1 1/2 inch goups pretty regularly, and at times will shoot the 1 inch group or better. I also noticed the guys who praise the 710 as a great rifle are the same guys who don't have anything to compare it to. How many of you guys own anything but a 710? If your happy with the rifle then that is all that matters, but there are MANY others that are better quality than the 710 for under 600 dollars. Actually there are many under 400 dollars better built that the 710. Not tying to make anyone feel bad. It's just a fact.

As has been posted..many quality rifles available for around $600. I like lightweight rifles and for around that price I'd go with Rem. 700 Mountain Riflewith the 20" or 22" barrel, 7mm-08, or pay a tad moreand get Win. Model 70 Featherweight in non-mag to keep the weight down.

As mentioned earlier, it would greatly depend on the terrian you plan to hunt, and if you want to spend $4-500.00 or $4-5000.00! Has been allot of talk about Savage (with the accue trigger) and i will agree for the cost I do not think you will find a better shooting gun from the box. If you will be placing most shot at less than 300 yds. the 308 is perfect. if more than 300 yds the 300 ultra mag will do the job. and there are so many other calibers that will do the same. I would never count out thr .270...25-06...7mm mag. Get the one you like and shoot it weekly. Then you will know if you made the right choice if not get another.... you never have to many guns ! !
