RE: Best deer rifle under $600
It is the fear that kills them, but not the fear of dying. It's the fear you'll do this to them
![]() and they'll be stuck onyour wall holding a Savage for eternity.:D |

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
I have onlyfired afew 710's and while accuracy was okay it certainlydid notshow the same potentialas many other rifles such as the remington700,savage 110or tikka t-3.The design and quality of machining and finish, simply is not comparable to most other rifles. The design also prevents accuracy improvements such as lug lapping and action truing that can make most otherrifles even more accurate |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
As has been posted..many quality rifles available for around $600. I like lightweight rifles and for around that price I'd go with Rem. 700 Mountain Riflewith the 20" or 22" barrel, 7mm-08, or pay a tad moreand get Win. Model 70 Featherweight in non-mag to keep the weight down.

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
As mentioned earlier, it would greatly depend on the terrian you plan to hunt, and if you want to spend $4-500.00 or $4-5000.00! Has been allot of talk about Savage (with the accue trigger) and i will agree for the cost I do not think you will find a better shooting gun from the box. If you will be placing most shot at less than 300 yds. the 308 is perfect. if more than 300 yds the 300 ultra mag will do the job. and there are so many other calibers that will do the same. I would never count out thr .270...25-06...7mm mag. Get the one you like and shoot it weekly. Then you will know if you made the right choice if not get another.... you never have to many guns ! !

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
Get a $100.00 rifle, and a $500.00 scope! (lol)
Point is, too many guys spend all their cash on wood, and fall way short on optics. Hope you can get quality in both. Savage does have some beautifull packages, and are a very reliable make. My understanding is that Winchester doesn't even make any of their guns anymore. Haven't for several years. Best all round caliber for thin skinned medium size game: .243. Check balistics. |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
If you get a savage get stainless , the blueing on their cheaper guns sucks , allthough I love my 110 in 243 .
My vote would be for a winchester super shadow in 270 wsm . Its stainless with a syn . stock . Stainless is about all Ill buy anymore . |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
ORIGINAL: cpsniper05 looking to get a new rifle here pretty soon, i like the Tikka T3 but don't know much about it, really like Winchesters, just want a good looking rifle that has good accuracy |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
Coyote , the action is smothe as butter allso on those tikas

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
don't own a tikka YEt but I will in a couple of weeks, that being said I've got an OLD howa308 (20+) that every time I point it at something it dies, if I point it at a target it hits (3/4" @ 100) it's old enough that it's as smooth as my Sako (exellent rifle), Weatherby vanguard are good shooting guns, Charles Daly right now are cheap guns that have a lot of potential, TAKE YOUR PICK there are a lot of "good guns" out there, good luck with your pick

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
there is nothing wrong with the 710. i own one but i am a gun finatic. i own almost every brand gun that there is and the 710 is just a good as any of them. i have one in a .270 that ive had for 2 yrs now and it has the remington accuracy. I can shoot the stem off of a small pumkin easy at 100 yds. they are good gun, killed two deer with them and havent had a problem out of it. although i use a ruger no i am just as confident in the 710.

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
Say what you want, but a picture is worth a thousand words. 8 X 7 bull elk take with a Remington 710 30-06 shooting 150 grain Remington Express Core-Lokt PSP. The main beams are 58 inches and 54 inches.
![]() I bought my son a Remington 710 30-06 a little over five years ago. I had a very limited budget at the time. This is the second elk that he has taken with his 710 and one mule deer. I’ll agree the 710 bolt is clumsy. It replaced a Savage/Stevens 110E 30-06 that has a clumsier bolt and couldn’t hit a paper plate at 200 yards. A local gunsmith says there is nothing wrong with it except a poorly made Savage/Stevens barrel. His 710 is a tack driver. He practices on coyotes at 400 yards. It shoots right with Remington 700 BDL, Weatherby Mark V, Browning A Bolt. Ruger M77, and all the other pretty rifles. Does it really matter what a rifle looks like if it will shoot sub-MOA? I’d buy another Remington 710 without hesitation. Yes, I own a whole safe full of American made pretty rifles and handguns. |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
Not exactly under 600 but the Steyr SBS Prohunter is a very very good gun
