RE: Best deer rifle under $600
Just the other day Dicks Sporting Goods advertised a Savage 116 syn/ stainless steel/accu-triggerin 270 wsm with a scope for 450$. If I had the money I would pick one up just because it a good deal. Savage is not the best looking gun , but pretty guns don't kill deer accurate one do. If I was in your posistion I would buy that rifle sell the scope for 40-50$ and buy a Bushnell Trophy series 3-9X40 with in silver finish off the net for 90$ +shipping and tax and you have a damn good dear rifle for less than 600$.

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
Savage 110 no mods.......(I really didnt want to turn this into a pissing contest) but I gotta stick up for the Savages.
please feel free to post some of your groups ![]() |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
same gun different day........(this is a group that I have repeated consistently) and would probably be plenty enough to take candy from a stranger with a 710(candy is worth more than 710's :D:D)

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
I could always switch guns if youd like ..........another Savage 110 this time in 7mm rem mag!!!
*The only point Im trying to make is, for the money a Savage has the accuracy along with the durability of lasting alot longer than the 710. If you shoot 3 shots a year the 710 may be an ok gun for you. But if you shoot 12 months a year, I wouldnt own one. ![]() |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
I picked up a Savage 111 package from Dicks for $374.00 including tax here in Kentucky. The scope is kinda a "piece" but hey i killed my first deer ever with this gun. The first time i shot a rifle was with this gun. Had them bore sight it and it came with a sling which is also a piece. I am going to upgrade the scope and bases and purchases a good sling and ill have one hell of a deer rifle for under $475.00. I think out of the box accuracy on this gun was amazing. Chambered in the 30-06. I picked up a 710 also and they guy there was like dont buy that here shoulder this and it was the savage. I dont think the 710 barrel is free floating, but to each his own.

RE: Best deer rifle under $600
I have the Rem 710 in .300 win mag. It certainly is not pretty and maybe some things aren't perfect about it but I can get 1 inch groups out of it at 100 yards. I only paid $297 for it but I did have to replace the scope on it though. The Bushnell it comes with is about worthless. I have nothing against the higher end Bushnells but the sharpshooter it comes with would not hold zero AT ALL. With my new Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 I am very happy with the gun.
Of course if I had to do it over again. I would probably buy a Savage without a scope and put a good scope on it. Live and learn I guess. |
RE: Best deer rifle under $600
If you are speaking of a rifle only for $600 you have many options. If you like Winchesters you could go for an Ultimate Shadow Blued model for under $600. Remington, Ruger, Browning, Weatherby Vanguard, & Savage all have rifles for under $600. So you can take your pick of what fits you the best. I've got several rifles that shoot tiny groups but when I go hunting I pick the rifle I shoot the best free hand for the occasion when you can't get a good rest.
