Vanguards are not chambered in 30-378.

Not that I know of.I guess that if you can afford the price of 30-378 ammunition to practise with and for hunting, you can afford a more expensive rifle.

Don't take this the wrong way but if your rifle budget is only $400 then you don't need to be shooting a 30-378 Wby magnum. You are going to spend that of 5 boxes of factory ammo.

To answer your first question the vanguards / Howas are excelent rifles. You would be hard pressed to find a better rifle for the price tag.

And to answer second your question.... there isn't a $400 rifle chambered in a 30-378. New you are looking at at least $1500 on up.

I would bet that in '06 you may be seeing it in 325wsm which is about equal to the 338 win. And yes the vanguard (howa 1500) is a great inexpensive rifle.

I just got a new weatherby vanguard syntheic blued for $330, at bimart. It seems to have a slick action and I really like the stock. I got it in 7mm Rem. Mag. Though I think you can get one in a 338 win mag. I really like mine so far.
