Bought the Savage 110 in 06'. Shoots quarter inch groups at 100 yards. Great gun. Real solid...i love it....now if only i can get them crosshairs on a deer.

Congrats! I have the exact gun with a bushnell banner 3x9x40 scope. I will be getting a better scope soon. The good thing about this gun is that you are never worried about scratching it or mishandling it 'cause they are so darned ugly already. But boy do they ever shoot! I have to admit that just under an inch is what mine shoots but maybe I haven't found the right ammo for it yet. Still and inch is great for a hunting rifle

Which is the proper way to measure groups.

However I am wondering if 1/4" is his average group or his best group.I have fired an .080" group with one of my 300ultramags but the average group is 5/8".Therefore,I thereforecall it a 5/8" gun.

Boy Oh Boy why bother building customs when you can get that kind of accuracy I say BS

To get real technical, you measure outside to outside and subtract one caliber (in the case of the 30-06, you woulod subtract .308 inches) but it's basically the same thing.
