Remington 700 XCR or Weatherby Mark V

I am thinking about purchasing a Mark V or 700 XCR. If you own one or have shot one let me know your opinion.

Having owned two mark Vs and several 700s my decision would be the xcr.My 700s were more accurate than my mark Vs and cost a great deal less as well.

I agree the xcr is a way better choice! They have that great rem. action adn there well known out-of-box accuracy. let us know how she shoots which ever you choose!!!

The XCR is your best choice. I would have a good gunsmith smooth the bolt up a little bit, as mine was a little sticky when I got it. (700 CDL)

If this is for the340 WeatherbyI would pick the Weatherby Accumark. It has a heavier stifferbarrel and the accumark are very good shooters. You will be glad you have the extra weight when shoot that beast also.

The standard mark V has a very thin barrel and even the accumark is only a # 4 contour and it is fluted which makes for a fairlylight barrel. The lighter barrels and the heavy mark V action result in a muzzle light balance that is not great for absorbing recoil.I have owned two mark Vs and have firedseveral more and they are not as good at absorbing recoil as rifles with a more muzzle heavy balance.I have fired most of these mark Vs because the owners could not shoot them accurately with the recoil and they were impressed with the groups that I was shooting with my ultramags. As such,I have sighted in several rifles for other shooters.

How is the barrel on the 700 XCR?

The barrel on the xcr appears to be the standard #3 contour that remington uses on all of it's magnum rifles. In other words about the same weight as a fluted #4 like on the accumark. However the 700 action is lighter than the mark V actionwhich will result in a more muzzle heavy balance than the weatherby rifles.
