Yeah, you can deer hunt with them, but it isnt a good round for deer. There are a ton of way better deer rifles in semi auto out there, you might consider them. I got rid of mine due to its uselesness and impracticality as a hunting rifle. But, If you just gotta have it, go with the Norinko, I had one and it worked fine as a 0 to 100 yard semi auto. EJ

russian is better, and yes it;s a good rifle, just use the right ammo, shoot straight and do something alot of folks don't do and thats stalk. try to get closer, not just shooting from 400yds.
i consider the sks the farm tractor of the gun world- ugly, heavy as sin, but it starts in the rain and rarely falters.
