I have tried just about everything in price ranges more conservative. Mossberg smooth, Remington smooth and rifled, Mossberg 695, HR UltraSlug. I have been hunting for 16 years and yet to find the perfect slug gun. Does anyone have good insight to what seems to be the hands down best rifled slug gun for deer. I have been looking at the Winchester X2 Slug, Browing Gold, BPS, Ithaca. Benelli is nice but my Dad has one and it seems to be just ok. Auto would be my preference but not opposed to pump.

MDH have you given much consideration too using a muzzleloader during shotgun season? (Assuming regs allow it, some I've seen that disallow 209s during primitive weapons seasons allow a 209 during shotgun season!) I hear from alot of guys the typical, "Yeah but I want more than one shot" but that's a copout and speaks more of ones confidence in their own shooting ability than a weapons limitations. THE hottest most baddazz slug guns are doing their best too kill at 200yds, the hottest most badazz smokepoles (or smokeless in the case of the Savage) are able to kill at 300yds.
Just a suggestion,
RA
ps
I guess if I just HAD TO use a birdgun for deerhuntin then I would go too something like the 12ga Abolt slug gun from Browning.

Well RedAllison I am not opposed to a muzzleloader and the regs in this state do allow. I am a very good shot, hence the Single Shot HR I own. I have taken many deer with this gun it is just it weighs 10lbs. As for bolt action I do own a Mossberg 695 and have yet to miss. It sounds like I have nothing to complain about, its just that I do like the multishot ability and fast shooting. I don't know about you, but it is getting pretty hard to find deer here in Mid-Michigan that stand still for more than 1 second. I have neglected to shoot at some pretty fine deer because of maybe needing a second quick shot. Public land is a pretty rotten place to track a deer.

i bought the fully rifled barrel with the cantelever rail for a scope for my now discontinued mossberg 9200 and i i must say its very accurate and follow up shots are nice with that gun.i would look into a good autoloader.

For Bigcountry, Yes I can get a barrel for my 11-87 mag, but he twist rate is 1:35. Sucks! 1:28 is better like in a Browning, Wichester, or Benelli. My HR Ultra Slug is 1:28 and probably the most accurate weapon I have every shot. Problem: Need a pack horse to carry it and one shot - fleeting deer do not mix. As for Savage, loading has proven to be a pain and there twist rate is 1:34.
For Liquidorange, I have looked at the Mossberg 935 mag. Pretty sweet deal for a full camo combo. Twist rate again is 1:35. I have no idea why the two largest american made gun compaines can't produce super accurate slug barrels like the foreign maid competitors. Now the competitors have thier cons as well, but they do seem very sweet. My brother owns a
BPS with a match cant. slug barrel and keeps them all in 1 inch of each other at 100 yards.
1:28 is the biggest part. Tar-hunt has the scoop on slug accuracy, but I have to mortgage my house to buy one.
Thanks

My best slug gun is my mossberg 500 with a 24 inch smooth bore w/ rifle sights barrel, at 50 yards with 2 3/4 inch winchester super-x 1 oz rifled slugs it keeps 5 shots inside of a skoal can. I can't complain plenty accurate for the dense wooded area I hunted in central missouri. Funny thing is I never took it hunting for some odd reason I always grabbed my 308 instead LOL . someday I'll whack a deer with that gun.
