I have one in 25-06 its the Ruger 1-B Sporter and I would not give this rifle up for any-thing.They are great guns and good looking also.

Very good rifles. They sometimes take some tinkering to get good accuracy. They are however over priced buy about 100-150 bucks.

I had a 1-H in .458WinMag and sold it about 6yrs ago.
Factory ammo is $1.20 a round. Had fun blowing-up
water melons @ 100yds here in FL. Could'nt take the
pounding anymore.
I wish I still had it tho!

Mine was a 416 Rem Mag.Also had a 45-70.

How in the world did you figure that? If they are overpriced then a Remington should sell for 200 bucks and a handirifle should sell for a quarter. You have to be kidding

They are not cheap but they are not over priced any more than any other gun. Look how much a Browning, Sako, or Weatherby cost. Look how muck some of the other higher end single shot rifles cost and the #1 is not that bad. It is an extreamly strong well built action with nice wood.

I always regret trading a gun for a while. However I now enjoy the ones I traded for. I always had to trade to try new guns for lack of cash flow:D. Up here a Ruger No1 sells for 600-650. No single shot is worth that money to me. I used to buy them for half that. Where the 700 has gone up 25-30 percent, the No.1 has doubled. My NEFs with the loads they like will shoot right alongside my No.1's. Thats the thing that makes me fell that they are overpriced. I had several and gave them a good ringing out and moved on. Now and then a good buy comes my way on these overpriced guns, then I might pick one up. Until then if I have a caliber that I like and it does the job thats all that matters to me. Except for girl, pretty don't do it for me.:D

I'd have to agree that the #1's are a little overpriced.

I have a $175 NEF that will shoot the same size groups as the #1 I had...Granted, it's not as pretty. It's not as shiney. BUT, it shoots as good.

The NEF's are now $199 and the #1's are about $650 around here. That's a sizeable difference. I know it's apples and oranges...

WOw that number 1 you had must have sucked to shoot that bad... they had some bad barrels in the late 70's and 80's maybe you were the lucky guy. No its not as pretty and it doesn't shoot magnums either and it breaks open and it doesn't use an expensive breech block system which means when your shooting at game or a target your eyes are less likely to get off the target. Lets not mention an above average piece of wood on it instead of cheap plastic or hardwood. Lets not mention an extraction system that works instead of one that works most of the time. Lets talk about built in scope rings not some cheap POS aluminum weaver base. I own a Handi-rifle and I own a few number 1's and they both have their place but you 2 fools are the first people I have ever heard even comparing them.
