Savage model 110 combo
I was just wondering if any of you have an experience or information on this gun and scope. I have seen it at wal-mart for like $300 is this rifle any good and is the scope usable?
Thanks. |

RE: Savage model 110 combo
The rifles are plain but useable. The scopes are barely passable and the mounts are crap.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
City Hunters,
I own a Savage .22-250 w/ 26" heavy varmint barrel and it's well worth the money that I paid for it. Savage rifles are well known for their out-of-the-box accuracy. As for the scope on the "combo rifle", they're usable, but I'd replace it as soon as possible with a better scope....the mounts too. Good hunting, Bowhunter57 Guns cause crime, like silverware causes Rosie O'Donnell to be fat. |
RE: Savage model 110 combo
I bout the savag 111 bolt action 30-06 last year it comes with senthatic stock and scop. The gun is very powerfull and the action is smooth from my experiance.so for the price i think its a good buy.One thing i could worn you about is to have some good sholder for that kick.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
I have the 110 in .243 cal. and it is very accurate with good trigger; the scope that came with it in the package wasn't hitt'n on much. Generally speaking, I think if you are like me (on a limited budget), you will be pleased with this purchase.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
if you need it for hunting or what not the scope should be replaced but if it is just a plinking rifle then i dont know if id replace it

Great rifle ...for the price cant beat it. I did get new millet mounts for it($10) & a $36.00 dollar scope /up grade ..dosnt even match ..its a black scope. lol .. boy am i cheap. But elk cow didnt notice tho last week & next week either will the bulls or deer etc that its a plain jane , afordable rifle <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>. but i dont sleep with it or take it out to dinner - just hunt with it& it shoots well, functions good even wet, frozzen & full of grit etc. ><'> ² <'>< |
RE: Savage model 110 combo
I purchased a Savage 110 combo in .270 several years back. The scope is supposed to be bore sited at the factory but I went through a box of shells without touching paper inside of 50 yards in an attempt to get it sited in. The darn thing kicked worse than my 45-70 ever has. I sold it with great joy in my heart.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
Dick's Sporting Goods currently offers the Savage 111FCXP3 in .270, 30-06, 7mm and .300 with a crappy 3X9 scope, sling etc.....for $320. This has a synthetic stock with a clip. I was thinking of buying this in the .06, tossing the scope and then topping it off with good quality rings and mounts over a Nikon 3X9. BUT! I know everyone says the Savage is an excellent shooter. They just feel bad in my hands. So, in an effort to avoid having to go through this decision again, I'm going to spend the extra few bucks and get the Remington Mtn. rifle in a more suitable deer calibre. HOLD OFF BOYS! I know the 06 is wonderful! I just think it is a tad big for a whitetail only rifle.
My advice would be to buy this package and top it off with a good scope, mounts and rings if your a practical type of person who isn't going to set there staring at your rifle going ga ga over it. Unfortunately, I'm not able to do it. I'd end up using it for one year and then buying another next year. So, in the long run I'd spend more money. |
RE: Savage model 110 combo
Well I went ahead and got the rifle. I called a couple of pawnshops and they were asking 325.00 for the same rifle used. Well since i'am in a tight budget I'am going to have to use the scope on it. I like the rifle and most of you have said it is very accurate so I feel its still a good investment. Thanks for all of your help and info.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
I just bought one at Walmart tonight. I haven't sighted it in yet; however, I got the combo for $225 in a 7mm. So far, I haven't seen any rifle under $300. This was a steal for me. Apparently someone had bought it for their son (little too big for them) and returned it. Never shot though. The gun could not be sold for a new price, so they sold it for $225. What a deal. Can't wait to shoot it.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
Well guys I'am heading to the range this saturday. I'll let you know how it's shooting.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
City hunters -- so how did it shoot? I'm trying to decide on a rifle myself, also on a limited budget.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
Well I finally got a chance to post. I shot the rifle and and sighted it in, it shoots great. I shot with a friends weatherby last year that cost about $1400 and let me tell you I'am shooting just as accurate. I was amazed, great gun I recommend it to anyone who's on a budget and needs a rifle.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
SAvages are a good deal. Concurr with the scope comments..upgrade to a better scope and you are set. The scope on the package is useable so don't discount it if on a budget.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
i've had one for 4 years, its cheap, but shoots really well, i really like it. I think you will too.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
The Savage 110 is a good gun i had mine about 2 days and never shot it until i shot at a coyote at about 120 yrds and hit were i aimed the scope isnt the best but not bad. If u ever get that Big Buck in your Sights and its a cold day dont braeth or u will lose the Buck in the Fog on your scope so learn how to hold your breath

RE: Savage model 110 combo
I have a Savage Model 110 that I bought about 8 years ago. It is a .270 and came with the laminated wood stock. The only thing that I ever had done to this rifle was getting the trigger lightened up. It shoots as good as any Rems., Wins., or Rugers in my gun cabinet. It is usually my choice of guns for the Whitetail woods.

RE: Savage model 110 combo
One of the first rifles that I deer hunted with was my father's Savage 110 30/06. It was topped with a Redfield Wideview 4x scope. I really liked that rifle. Looking back, the only fault that I could find with the rifle is that the stock was somewhat blocky, and the trigger could have used some work. Also, it seemed pretty heavy. But it shot great, and I am partial to the safety position on it.
I now shoot a Browning A-Bolt 30/06. It does have a much better trigger, and it has an overall better feel to it. But I do like the fact that the safety is in the same place. The Browning is quite a bit more expensive, and it is absolutely disheartening the way that the beautiful stock has scratched up from use. On the Savage, you could hardly see the scratches, as it had a "plain jane" stock. I think that the Savage is a wonderful starter or intermediate rifle for someone, especially if they are on a tight budget. They are very capable of some great groups, right out of the box. But I would definitely be cautious of the package deals, as they do have cheap scopes, and poor mounts. The nice thing about Savage, is the fact that you can buy the rifle, plus a pretty descent scope and mount set for around the price of what you would pay for similar rifles made by their chief competitors. |
RE: Savage model 110 combo
man itwayne that is a good deal.thats why i always have to check out the guns and stuff in sporting goods when i go to wal-mart. or at least that is what i tell my wife.
