Original Thread Title: "How Manny?"
A "Manny" is a piece of canvas usedused as an accessory whenusing horses or mules to pack in to remote areasas is commonly done on "away from the road" elk hunts.

Examples of "How Manny?"for me personally areas follows:

** First, I use a manny (properly folded)to createa pannier top cover to keep the contents in the pannier and the rain/snow/dirt out. IMHO it is best if you placetheMannyover the loaded pannier before applying the lashing rope to the load.

** Second, I usea Manny on each of twobales of hay, when packing them into a spike camp so there will be feed for the horses once the serious hunting starts and the spike camp is full of hunters and horses. This keeps the bale together and keeps it from rubbing the hay against the horse during transport.

** Third, I use a Manny to "corner" a bunch of miscellaneous loose items that need to make the "trip in" by placing the items on the Manny and shaping and folding the canvas so that it creates a "flexi-package" and one uses rope to keep it all trussed up and then the package is hoisted upon the pack horse and secured. [This is one of my least favorite uses, though it is sometimes handy.]

** Fourth, I have used a Manny as a blanket when it was colder than we expected in spike camp and we had more people than we planned for.

** Fifth, I have used a Manny to protect saddles and tack from inclement weather overnight.

** Sixth, I have used a Manny to keep our rifles dry while they are stored outside of the spike camp tentas we didn't want them going through the repeated warming and cooling cycles that happen in a wood heated tent --- creates condensation on metal which can lead to rust.

Certainly a Manny is auseful item (kinda like duct tape). If I was taking a handicapped hunter hunting, then we might use a Manny for him (ot her) to sit, lay, rest on whilewe wait in a "sniper nest" in ambush over a saddle.

That is the "How Manny?" I know.
