Your Bow only hunter is checking in.

I hunt in northern VA on couple of private lots in a light residential area. Most people live on 10 to 20 acre lots with 100acre + farms in between. My county has the highest deer population in all of Virginia. The deer are everywhere but finding the big ones can be a challenge.

Here is a picture of a 120" buck that is at the top of my list so far.
2004 Buck

My Bow season opens on October 2nd.

Here is a picutre of the one I got last year 70 yards from the back door of my house. He scored 117 P&Y.

I can try to wip up a graphic for us.

I will be using a Hoyt Razortec this year. 3" groups at 40 yards and I just split another $7 carbon shaft the other day. Just waiting for Oct. 2nd and the horns to walk by.

My fall food plot is looking great and I just found rubs 50 yards from my back door. :) You cant beat walking out you back door to run up an oak anytime you get a couple hours.

8 point or better this year for me.

RE: Team 10

Well guys my opening bow day was full of action. I set up in a tree where I had seen deer several times before on my mothers new property. Lets just say I have never had so many deer within spitting distance for almost three hours. My carbon suit paid off but it was hard to not move for an extended amount of time. I had lots of doe, yearlings, and one 4 pointer come by my shooting lanes but passed on all of them for the large 8 point that I know is in there. It was very cool to here the yearlings call to each other just under my feet.
It is only a matter of time now. I think he will score close to 120".
I would have taken a doe but dont want to ruin this spot just yet.
Wish me luck.

RE: Team 10

Your bow hunter checking in. Almost got a big one last Friday. I think he is 115" to 120". Good for my area.

Friday afternoon I took off work early and hit my stand. About 45 minutes after settling in I had 4 yearlings, a doe and a 4 pointer come in to browse under me. The buck turned with his head down toward the doe to sniff. The doe was about 7 feet away with her back to him and she spun around and they both started grunting at each other with their heads down. Then all of a sudden both stood up on their hind legs and started swinging their front legs at each other very rapidly smacking their hooves over and over again. It was very cool to see 20 feet in front of me.
Then 15 min later the big 8 point I have been hunting comes out a different path then the rest at 54 yards and proceeds to graze in the opposite direction of my stand.
I got down and was able to stalk him within 45 yards but there were just to many eyes on me so I let them go.

On Saturday someone decided to mow land they dont own near my stand and spooked every deer in my area.

I moved my stand closer to where the buck travels so I may get a shoot this week if I can get out of work early. I got some bow practice in with all of my gear on last Sunday to make sure I am ready. I shot a 3" group at 50 yards with 4 arrows right from the start. Yup, I am ready.
