Thats a real nice 6pt, his main beams are very long especially that right side. I think the other teams are starting to sweat now, we have definitly set the bar high. Great job guys!!!!!!

That is a dandy 6 pt RTA47 and that gives you guys 428 and some change. You definately have set the bar for the rest of the teams...[&:] But don't count anyone out, a couple teams with a couple dandy bucks could pull ahead so the rest of you six need to hunt hard.;) Good luck guys and your off to a substantial start.

Nice buck RTA47! Way to go team. I'm giving it my best to contribute - I know they're there, just have to wait them out. Plenty of season left though, and we are coming into peak rut here in MI. (BTW, anyone know when this contest ends?)

"And no bob i don`t` know when this thing is over" I would think someone would know when the end of the season is for all the states?[&:]

RE: Official Team "The Elite 8" (8) Thread

Well guys, today was great hunting weather but the deer didn't coperate. Looks like they are going to develope the land next to my honey hole and someone was hunting down in the bottom. It caused the deer to be skiddish as they came up the hill and I saw no monsters. I did see a ton of deer and have my spot pick out on thursday. Same place I should have been last year when after 2 dozen does came up at 7:30 am 2 monsters came up at 8 am.

Tonight's hunt, I saw quite a few and the biggest one of the day. He was a nice 9 point. He was about 20" with good mass on his main beams. His tines were short. They were only about 6" on avg. He looked like a young deer. He has good potential if I don't shoot him next month. The funny thing was he tending a doe and stayed below me for 15 mins. Then another buck deep in the woods was chasing another doe and grunting loud. That flipped the switch on that 9 point and he lowered his rack to push off the doe. Then trotted off after them. It was funny how it flipped the switch.

I'm not planning on up dating this every night. I expect the same every hunt. I will post at the end of the week unless I drop a nice one. Bad news is I might have missed the rut by 1 week. Next week should be fun. It could be a disaster if I try to hunt next week. I might loose my job and my wife might move out and divorce me. I might be wrong on the last statement. I was told it's not the wife who has to move. On the other hand, I guess I would have plenty of time to hunt.

Good luck everyone.

RE: Official Team "The Elite 8" (8) Thread

Sorry guys, nothing worth shooting this early in the season. That nine point was the biggest of them all but any of the eight points were nice bucks. I just amazed none of the monsters that I know are running around wanted to get shot. Go figure, I guess that's why they call it hunting. None of my friends saw anything huge.

Tonight I went to an old honey hole that holds big ones. The home owner said she hasn't seen anything big in her yard but has seen some running the neighborhood. I picked a new tree based on last years movement (another hunter was hunting across the open field) Bad news is no big bucks let alone huge, the good news is I have the right tree there. I had 18 does 2 spikes and one weird 4 pointer (spike & 3 points). All came directly underneath me on there way to grazing. I was sure something big had to show but it was no go.

Unfortunately, finacial responsibility has come into play and I have to cut my trip short. I hope to make one more trip up here when the rut is on. I'll give it one more time and then give you guys a choice. I can get two bucks. Next month I don't care if I shoot one of the 8's or there is even a chance for a nice 10. On the other hand I could hold out for huge and shoot something later in the month or into January. I just can't be sure when or if I will get back up north.

RE: Official Team "The Elite 8" (8) Thread

Sounds like you're having fun out there though, Fieldmouse. I'd probably take that 9 myself. This year I've been seeing more bucks than does, first time that's happened to me, ever. I've seen 10 different bucks from the same stand this year - all of them not really worth shooting, they seem to all be 1-1/2 year olds. Biggest was an 8 pt. with about a 10-12" spread (not big tines). I did see one of those freaky fours like you saw though - little 3 pointer on one side and a 2" spike on the other. He got to the base of my tree, sniffed my rope, then looked up at me (I could see what he was thinking.... "Nah, coudln't be.") I've seen big deer in the woods I'm hunting and every year the locals talk about an infamous 10 pt., (I saw him last year, he's a whopper). Who knows if it's the same deer, but I'm after him.

Congrats to all you of you guys who are carrying the team so far. Nice deer so far. I have not been able to hunt much yet but will hit it hard this weekend and all next week(vacation time):D

I saw 5 different bucks this afternoon with one shooter among them, a good massed 8 pointer. But as my luck would have it, my bow was laying down on the ground and me still in my climber. I had started down to help another guy track a deer he thinks he hit. I didn't even know the guy was in the woods or had permission(he does). The guy hit his grunt call softly while kneeling below my and 3 bucks came within shooting range. Although I couldn't shoot it was fun watching those bucks pay attention to his grunt call. Well, hopefully sometime soon I can help Team 8 out a little. Good luck to all, and sorry I have not mailed anything yet.[:o]

If I fail to get my trophy this month, I will pop an 8 or maybe a 10 for the team. I just really want to get one of the 150's or bigger that I've seen. It has been killing me not to get my chance already this year. I tell you it really comes down to being able to get time in the woods. I just don't have it.

This weekend fellas the big boy is going down. (At least in my head he is). Should be the best weekend for MI bowhunting coming up, plan on spending most of it in the woods. I'll try to add to the tally, just can't do it with these little forks and 6's and small 8's running around all over. Bring on the big boy!

Seen a few medium 8 pts., its been tough hunting. But this morning I scouted an area I used to hunt and its looking good. The adjoining property was logged last spring and now its all grown up into weeds and grass.....looks like an excellent bedding area. I found 2 huge rubs(6" diameter), some smaller rubs and plenty of doe tracks along with could be his tracks as well. Gonna set a stand up and give it a try the next couple of days as long as the wind cooperates.

I am starting to think this way as well. I was running late Friday morning[:@] and just as I was hooking my climber to a tree, 3 does came into the woods followed by a 6 pt. and 150-160 class buck! As I fumbled around strapping my release back on and nocked an arrow the big buck kept running the little 6 pt. off. As luck would have it the 6 pt. turned and slowly started walking toward me. At 10 yards he stared a hole in me, finally blew and my chance at taking the big buck was lost[:o]. 25 yards away and I couldn't get a shot off. Oh well, lot of season left.

Way to go Gutshot.

I may have screwed up but time will tell. I went to my honey hole and as the sun was coming up, I noticed a big rig in the middle of the field. Yes the big rig was a water drilling rig. I knew they were going to develope the field by why not wait until the rut was over. Anyway, I had good activity well off the pace for the spot I was in and I had 2 decent bucks. Both eight pointers but mass was lacking. The one was about 18" and the other went 22 but not a heavy rack. I had a good bead on him at 40yards. I told myself if he came across the fence I'll drop him. He choose not to do that and so he lives on. I think he would have been just shy of 140. Maybe next month.

RE: Official Team "The Elite 8" (8) Thread

Way to go gutshot! I'm trying my hardest out there - have passed on several small bucks. Almost took a small 8pt., but just couldn't do it. (His rack was just outside his ears, maybe a 10" spread - nothing to write home about). But, with the gunners out there now and the peak of rut dwindling fastly away, I may not be able to be picky. I guess any little buck will do at this point.

I'm sorry guys to let you down for the season. I tried my best to shoot a monster. I still have a good month and a half left but now I will move into a more non-selective mode. We shall see. I still have a hard time letting go the dream. On the good side, my friends 162 was shot second week in January. I can tell you I won't wait til then. I will pop something.

For the rest of the team, look at what we need to do. Badshot, Cougar, O2B and where is 121553 lets now shoot something. Think about it. I never read the average but it must be near 90 or 100. Do the math and that could take use to 600 to 700. It can be ours.

I commit to dropping you all a decent buck. Lets be 10 for 10 guys.:)

Gutshot, I can do it but will be on vacation for a week with no access to this board. I emailed 121553 and reread his post. He said he was going to be selective. o2BHNTN isn't a member anymore as far as I can tell. I emailed Rob to see what happened and if we could add an alternate this late in the game. The bad news is I won't know unless he gets back to me by 10:30am this morning. After that I may not get on this board until next Sunday.

Good luck to those who haven't scored. Lets get it done an win this thing.

Hey guys, sorry for not getting back but just chequing in. Got your P.M. Fieldmouse as I haven't been on the computer with hunting season going on. I've been busy taking other people out in filling their tags and skinning and cutting up their deer, and now its going to be my turn as I have all this week off and will be in a tree most of the time. I been seeing quite a few deer, mostly dinkers but the rut is just now starting to kick in as I been seeing smaller bucks chasing does and bucks that I never seen before. Fieldmouse, you are right, I am selective but I do want that special buck and in doing so I hope that I won't be eating tag soup. [X(] I have set my standards kinda high but as the season is ending I may be dropping it, I really don't know as it depends on the situation. This week coming is the week I been waiting for as I will be bowhunting in the Mornings and evenings and as much as the afternoons waiting for that certain buck to go stupid and come by. Its been colder than sh!t in the mornings and the eves somewhat more tolerable to bare, still cold and struggle staying still and then the shakes come and its not from the deer but its my body talking to me.
You guys are doing great and I think we can put a couple more on the board. Good luck and I'll be back next week as its now time to get down and dirty.;)

O2b has been on the board as early as the begining of Nov so he's still a member. I PM'd fieldmouse with the correct user name to contact him. Check back early in your thread to find his post, profile, email and PM.....to contact him. Good luck guys, you've been outstanding up to this point. If 18 can't win, I'm secretly bettin on your guys to take team 20.

Guys, I haven't abandoned you, I have been on travel for work and my hunting time has been thin as of late. I am trying to get one close enough for a shot, but all that I've been able to muster is a couple of does.

I have some time coming up and will be out at the farm doing my best to put one down that is worth something. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth but when duty calls you must go.

I'm trying, I'm trying. Don't write me off just yet. Our season runs through January 1st, so I have plenty of time to get one. I'm just getting a little frustrated by not seeing the deer like I thought I would.

Keep hopes high. We can still pull this out.

Great to hear from you guys! Good luck and whack the big one. I know what you mean about holding out and hoping it doesn't sting us in the end. I've passed on 12 small bucks so far knowing the big one is gonna come trolling through any minute. Of course now, the past few hunts have been all doe. Gun season started here Nov 15th, and the deer are not as willing to cooperate I've noticed. ALRIGHT... We are all here.. Great.. It's Great to have a FULL team.. I think we should ask for our Same team back for Next year.. Wonder what they are gonna do about that? Pic new teams? I want my same team back, not NEW guys.. What ya'll think about that?

Well anyways.. I've been taking the fiance out rifle hunting, haven't seen squat, been talking to guys up here and all they are seeing is WOLVES.. two guys I know personally shot deer, went to get help, came back and had a Wolf Chewing the Hind Quarter Already.. DNR really Screwed up introducing these wolves back in the U.P. I wonder how many got shot this rifle season.. My buddy had one, 30 yrds from him, headed straight for him, then turned, and took off after 3 does that had come through 2 mns earlier..

BADSHOTBOB, how is the deer hunting where your at? What part of MICHIGAN YOU FROM? Everyone Is complaining about the Deer season up here this year, Its the worst I've ever seen..
