At what distance do you guys usually make a shot while hunting? And what effects this distance?

I won't shoot beyond 40 yards.

With a bow, I don't like to shoot past 40 yards. With a rifle, 300 hundred yards is my limit, and with a turkey gun, 40 yards is far enough for me.

About 40 yards max. Depends upon the angle, how settled the deer seems to be, severity of cross wiind, etc. No different when I used a compound.

Two things afect the distance of shots taken. The ability of the hunter and the ability of the hunting equipment. Crossbows are not magic, the arrow or bole from a crossbow starts to drop faster in flight than an arrow from a compound od recurve bow because it is shorter and lighter giving it less momentum. The answers you got of 40 yards are reasonable, beyond that, you need to have a whole lot of practice and be consistant in hitting where you want to hit. When I still bow hunted, I limited myself to 35 yards because That is where I was sure of my shots.

When i shot a compound bow no more than 40 yards, and now the X bow i do the same thing. I you hunt woods, to many things can go wrong.

my advise would be, go out and practice. know the capability of whichever weapon you choose and know the capability of self.

one hunter might be capable of 500 yard shot while another hunter with same weapon may feel uncomfortable at more then 1oo yards.

there is no shame in letting an animal walk because you may have felt uncomfortable taking the shot but it is dispicable to take a shot you're not sure you can make.

x2, let one walk right under My stand opening week. He cruised on by, Just couldnt get a shot I felt right about. Got skunked this year, dont regret not trying to make a shot out of the situation.
