Default New to bow hunting - advice on first crossbow?

Hi all,

Firstly I'd just like to introduce myself as I'm new to the forum! I'm Dave, and I'm looking to get into crossbow hunting.

My Dad has been crossbow hunting for a good few years and i looks cool as hell and I want to give it a try myself.

What crossbows are best for beginners? I'm on quite a tight budget (under $500) and just wanna see what you guys could recommend for me?

Thanks!

Default Crossbow hunting

Crossbow hunting is best suitable for short range area, but there is a problem in crossbow hunting, that you can't guarantee more than one shoot at a target.

For a tight budget I'd suggest the Barnett Raptor, will leave you a few dollars for arrows ect.

And it's light weight, short, narrow bow that is good for tight blinds or tree stands, yet produces 330 fps.

id pick up a nice used parker/excalibur/tenpoint/wicked ridge etc....you can find them for about 200 to 350 really easily. It might not be the latest greatest fastest, but it will be more than enough for hunting and youll learn the ins and outs of xbows that way. If you really like it, you can sell your used bow for about what you have in it and drop more money on something slicker later.
