Barnett
This thread is making me might sad about my Barnett C2 that I've been happily shooting and hunting with for two years. Maybe one or more of you folks would say exactly what is the problem. Words like "junk" and "blows up" don't mean anything to me, but I'm not very smart. Are the limbs weak or flawed? Are the bolts or other hardware breaking. Maybe the strings or cables are of poor quality? Lot's of opinion out there, and lot's of people selling other brands by brand bashing is nothing new (Ford vs Chevy?). This is a serious question, as I'd like to know what to look for if there is a defect to worry about. So far after a few hundred shots my Barnett is accurate, smooth, easy to ****, and hasn't given me a second of trouble. Thanks in advance for the info
|
Oops
Have to make a correction. The model of my Barnett crossbow is the C5. I think I said C2.
Thanks |
I have a Revolution AVI very flat shooting and very accurate. It can hit the 10 ring so to speak.
|
Barnett's are made with cheapest material possible, Warranty sucks. Risers are cast aluminum alloy and tend to break apart (blowup). Limbs have a tendency to splinter, split and break. Customer service is terrible. Never had any satisfaction when calling about cracked or splintered limbs, risers breaking, wheels cracking. None of which has been shooters fault. I've l'ost count of the number of broken Barnetts that show up for "repair"!!
Supposedly they have improved their quality but I have yet to see or experience it. They have to prove their better quality and customer service to me before I wil say one good thng about them, To date they haven't come close in either catagory, Their failure rate is 20 times greater than other manufacturers. Supposedly they have increased their warrenty to 5 years but................ Personally I would not own even a top of the line Barnett even if it was given to me. I'm sure you will find many, many crossbow user on the forums that feel the same. The old adage; "You get what you pay for" have never been more true. The company has made thier money by suing other manufacturers. Some people like them, but then some people liked Edsels when they were new!! |
I own a RC-150 it has done well in the 10 years that I have used it.Its light, quite and accurate. That being said now comes the rest of the story they shoot a 16 inch bolt which Barrnet no longer makes. If you try to contact customer service you`ll never get a reply.I live fairly close to both a Cabela`s and a BassPro and neither one carry`s any accessories for Barrnet.I`m down to my last 2 bolts and can`t find any to replace them, right now I have a limb just starting to show signs splittering.Once it goes,I`ll trash it and never buy another crossbow from them.Best advice?Anything but Barrnet!

i am sorry but i don't understand why you guys bash something you don't know what your talking about. Barnett makes good bow or they would not be in business much more than a week. they have a 5 year warranty, i bought two of their crossbows and have shot them a lot with NO breakage, or Issues. course i don't abuse my equipment, and therefore don't have problems. the bows are just as accurate and just as fast if not faster than the 1200.00 tenpoint bows. matter of fact i can buy and have bought two crossbows for less than what one of those bows cost, and the Jackals will probably outshoot the tenpoint banker bow.
oh well.... i sure you are even a scent lock wearers too... |
Why blame the dealer? They didn't design the bow. People like you are asses.

The only person I would complain to would be the dealer I bought it from, but then my brand doesnt seem to have the
problems that Barnett does,so I feel it was worth a little more to get the quality I wanted. |

with the product, but you probably havent had one blow up in your face either.I have it aint any fun,and am glad my wife wasnt shooting the piece of junk when it happened. |
It occurs to me that the question we should be asking is how GOOD said crossbows are. I don't want a delineation of how bad something is in ANY choice I make when that choice involves something that's just inches from my face.....much less my eyes.
As for the newbies that are proud of their recent purchase, can you at least wait until you've shot the bow (at least) 300 times before telling us how enamored you are with your decision. ALL new things are great- we wouldn't have bought them otherwise-not all things used, esp if applied under hunting conditions, always pan out to be the same. |
Well said!!X2
|
My dad and both of my brothers got Barnett's. There biggest complaint is how heavy they are, and the arrows that come with it are JUNK, they were 15-20 grs different from each other (no tips in).
|
I purchased the Barnett buck commander package for 500.00. Very nice flat shooting bow. Excellent accuracy and very fun to shoot.
|
A few yrs ago there was a group of us that 'hung out' here. Can't recall for certain the names, but there were some Bnett guys w/ quad 300's that swore by them. Moxie and Treeclimber ring a big bell.
Don't read much bad about them on the other forums, and there are no doubt others that are less prone to problems. I wish them well. |
Year 2 of my Barnett Quad 400...love it, love it, love it. I trust it completely. A lot of shots through it.
|
Lets start a thread on Excaliburs, Parkers, and TenPoints and see how many complaints we rack up? I'm guessin not near as many as what this Barnett thread gets.
AND when there is a problem, does it get fixed? Again I'm guessin those 3 companies will far out perform Barnett. Ya get what ya pay for. |
Ill tell you what's going on here. All the guys with the high dollar bows are all bashing the Barnett because they spent so much money on their bows they are brainwashed into thinking if it doesn't cost a grand its "junk". I bought a Barnett jackal 2 years ago for my kids and the thing shoots awesome. I love shooting it as well as my kids. Yes one thing is it is a little big but definitely manageable even by my 6 and 8 year old kids. And all the people talking about Barnett's customer support, I called the other week about adding a cable slide to the bow and they were super nice and helpful and mailed me the slide and new cables for free. By the way the new jackal comes with the slide. I can buy 4 jackal's with a scope and four bolts each for the price of one ten point, chew on that. To all the guys talking Foo Foo on Barnett "STOP HATING!" sometimes cheap thing work well too. I am 100% happy with the purchase I made and if it broke tomorrow I would surely order another jackal before any other xbow. But I wouldn't have to" buy" another because its still covered under the 5-FIVE-I REPEAT 5year warranty.
|
It is the same story with muzzleloaders. Everyone puts down CVA and calls them junk. Truth is I have had the great TC muzzleloader and others and I now have a CVA and like it better than any of the others. To each their own I guess.
PS I have a Wildcat C5 also and like it! |
I have a Barnett Panzer 4. I think it only cost $180. I have mixed feelings about it. I had terrible results with it until I took the POS red dot sight off and replaced it with a good rifle scope that was on my .22. At 22 yard I hot bullseye everytime soaybe Ill have good luck this year.
You also have to pull the string back slowly to prevent it from twisting. The worst thing is it is loud. The little metal tab that holds down the arrow vibrates loudly. I'd give it a 7 out out of 10 |
My hunting buddy has a Barnett Rhino that he has had for some years and it shoots great with no issues at all! It is HEAVY though!!!
|
OK.. new to Cb's. Bought a Barnett quad extreme 400. Took it back bcuz i didnt like the crank and the pin fell out of it. (was factory installed or by DUNHAMS <--( they SUCK) anyways.
BARNETTS CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS 100% SUPER AWESOME GOOD TO ME!!!!!!!! I decided to upgrade to the PENETRATOR, They (Barnetts customer service) had me my NEW PENETRATOR at my house and in my eager hands SUPER FAST! I had explained that my States season (MI) was soon to be open season for bow and that I was afraid I'd not have time to sight in b4 the opener. being handicapped with a bad back and other areas of deterioration I need the extra time to adjust to a new TOY. (guns & bows are NOT toys children...lol only to us that love them so) Ive never shot other brand bows, but I am impressed with the Penetrator. Not to impressed with BOTH BARNETT 4x32 SCOPES Ive had now tho!! But I've heard the red dot isnt any better? I read alot of typical complaints by ford and chevy bow owners..lol I expect that.. I WILL ADD.. BARNETT DOES have a 5 YEAR Warrantee! They ARE AFFORDABLE to us average Jo'Z... CUSTOMER SERVICE ..my experience with them was.. THE BEST IVE EVER experienced ANYWHERE with ANY PRODUCT! I seemed to actually ... Matter to them... like back in the olden days.. remember when banks used to give gifts ect to get you to put your money in them.. NOW THEY CHARGE US! I'm glad you guys like yer expensive cb's. Maybe someday I can finance one.. AND... man I sure hope this thing dont blow up ibn my face!...LOL |

I got lucky I guess. I bought a used Barnett 2 seasons ago and love it. Accurate and fast. I never knew of all these issues before this website. Id be hesitant to buy one now based on everyone elses problems, guess I just got lucky
|
Just thought I would put my two cents in! I bought a Barnett Jackal this year and have shot it approx 150 times with ZERO problems. I did have a problem out of the box with the scope and called Barnett. Within 2 days of the call I had a new scope. I have been very pleased with this CB and have had excellent service support for it. I dont know much about barnetts past but deffinitly think they are of very good quality and have top support for their product now. Just like any other big manufactures they may or may not of had problems in the past but I now know they are not like that. The Jackal shoots very accurate and not a single problem with it blowing up. Also I have dealt with companys in the hunting industry for years and know that if even half of the stuff in this thread were true barnett would be a company of the past due to lawsuits. I have observed in the posts though thast most of the faults are hear-say and 3rd party and not actual first hand people telling of their misfortunes with Barnetts. This is just my opinion from what I make of common sense and my first hand use of their product.

see my posts in the quad 400 thread. The problem is that it's illogical to use anecdotal stories and apply that single story across the whole. That's just ridiculous.
A LOT of what goes on is this: operator error. A hunter screws up a shot and blames the bow, the bolt, the broadhead, etc. Kind of like if I shanked a shot on the golf course and blamed my driver. I mean, do people actually realize how ridiculous they sound when they do this? :violin: I'm not saying Barnett's are the greatest bow on the planet. I've had great success with mine and have used the money I've saved to buy other things I need for hunting. That doesn't mean I won't look at another bow or try different things out. But I also know I'm not going to cross any product off my list based on some anonymous Internet poster's bad experience with said product--or especially if that person blames the product for missing a deer. Lol. Not saying it occurs here (I've seen no evidence of it yet), but here's another reality about the Internet world: companies employ hacks to traverse the Internet and start false rumors about competing products and puff up their own. If you don't think that kind of crap doesn't happen, I've got a bridge or two to sell you. |
Well....only thing to say is.......
I've got two risers boxed up and ready to ship back for replacement. Both strings on mine and my friends bows broke at exactly the same place.......the first contact point on the cams. I would be crazy to shoot them after a dry fire caused by a manufacturing or string defect. Nuff said.
|
Bnett's claim to fame has always been cheap speed.
|
me and my dad bought hortons i love them and they have a lifetime limb replacement and my dads brand new was 300 and mine used witha case and 6 bolts was 200 and in the past month we have killed two with mine my dads came with 3 bolts and a quiver and a 3 dot red dot scope

It depends on which forum you ask.

*Update*
I received the risers on exactly the date promised. They appear to be new as the markings I had on them are gone and the strings look new. The bowstring is much heavier as confirmed by tech support moments ago. They had a problem and have addressed it. They did however forget to put the cable spacers in the box. I called them and they politely said they would get them out right away. As far as customer service goes, they have treated me very professionally. As for the new string I will keep ya posted. Vammy |
There customer service is great.
|
i love the fact that the bashers wont accept the fact that this company has turned itself around, every major bow manufacturer has had failures, Barnett has just made so many in the past when quality control was low and warranty was at only a year that they caught up with them. Having new owners and people like they do at there warranty dept has made a huge difference, i own a 2011 carbon riser buck commander and really like it alot, ive had almost every brand of crossbow out excalibur, darton, horton, and tenpoint, scorpyd, including 1000.00 dollar models, my opinion is this crossbow is a beauty i dont give a rats butt what some of the na-sayers think about whats in the past, as of now this company holds its own with most or all of the other guys, call Rob Smith he will take your call or someone there will ,and ask him all those questions.

You couldn't go wrong with an Excal or a Wicked Ridge which is made by TenPoint. Do yourself a hug favor and call David at Wyvern Creations. He will help you tremendously with straight answers and hard facts with no pressure to buy anything 603-659-0575

Barnett xbows
Theolder models except for the jackel and wildcat had alot of problems. They now offer a 5 year warrenty, there customer service is really good. I just received my predator on 1-12-2012, i called them at least 7 times with questions. They answered them all, including call backs. This bow is insane on how fast and powerful it is. I paid 443.00 on ebay for the 2011, new in box version. From what i have heard talking to guys that actualy owned a barnett in the old days they deserved there reputation, thats changing fast. Wax your cables and strings alot, make sure your bow is fully cocked, basic common sense and you will do fine with your choice.
|
i agree, just posted something on this topic, but they are working to change there rep and have some good stuff. These xbows blow almost every other company out of the water for speed and power. Barnett predator is what i love.
