RE: Bohning blazers

I haven't fletched any for my crossbow yet, but I test fit some old arrows I have that already have the blazers on them. They hit the bottom of the groove and actually make the vane bend over at the very high point. Will this matter and how will it effect my arrow. I'm shooting an Excalibur Vortex.

Never heard of that one before, maybe yours are tallers than our?

They're standard 2" blazers and just long enough to touch the bottom of the groove (enough to make the bend over just a small amount.

2" Blazers are all that i have used for couple of years now. i like them very well and i haven't noticed them touching in bottom of arrow slot in my Excal CB's. i have looked but seems to be clearing enough to me.

I'm shooting a Vortex also. If the Blazers are bottoming out in mine, it doesn't seem to be an issue for accuracy.

Thanks for all the info. I believe I'll fletch a couple and see how they work.

:DMeasured my Excal[s] rail slot depth today, appears i have just under an eighth inch clearance. Go for it!!

Excal's have a deeper groove than Ten Point crossbows, so do Desert Strykers and Strykers. There is no vane contact with the bottom of the barrel groovewith these crossbows.

I shoot nothing but 2" Blazers. IMHO they are the best crossbow vane by a large margin. TP crossbows's shallow grooves do contact the bottom Blazer vane and with continued shooting the vane will gradually have a small amount of material worn off leaving a slight "flat" at the highest point of the vane. The only TP crossbow I've seen a POI difference between a new Blazer and a worn downBlazer is the GT Flex recurveset on the mid draw weight setting. The new Blazer vane will hit about 1 1/2 inch low/right at 30 yards. The Pro slider, Stealth X2 and Phantom all wear a little off the bottom vane but accuracy with Blazers is awesome and the old and worn Blazer vanes hit in the same spot as new Blazers out past 60 yards. That's good enough for me :-)

the 2 inch blazers hit the bottom of barrel groove on my horton.
the 1 and 1/2 inch ones dont hit the groove.

i dont think it affects way arrow flys out of my horton but it will wear the tip of vanedown a little over time.

on compound bow or recurve that contact could throw arrow off but that is because arrow is already in flight then hits the bow

going down groove and then flying without contact with bow, i guess it should not matter.

some of the people at indoor range here take a dremel tool and grind it down on vane a little:eek:.

they swear they get better groups by doing this.

Well the proof is in the pudding. While I was shooting fair groups before, each type of tipwas grouping in a different place. I fletched a half dozen arrows with 2" blazers and the improvement was amazing. I gained about 8 fps, but now my field tips, mechanicals and Muzzy's are all grouping in the same place. And the blazers do hit the bottom of the groove but it doesn't effect the arrow flight. Thanks for all the info.
