There seems to be a hard core group that loves the speed the new model desert stryker has had all kinds of trouble and the big stryker has also had problems you should be able to do a search on here and get an eye full on both bows against all advice I bought the Excaliber Equinox and I love the thing but I like to tinker with my equipement and I love shooting 80 yards at a TARGET it is a real hoot

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

Iam not saying yes or no...All you reallyneed is 265-295 fps to be good for just about all NABG......I just wouldnt spend that much on one CB.....When you can get two nice ones for the price of one..(one that still has issues)....

I guess it would have to be a good ego booster! LOL!! IF you do the math on what that gains you versus the speed of sound and a deers reaction time you do not get the four times in price you pay for them IMO. I do not see the need for it since I do pretty good at getting most of me deer within twenty yards when I hunt, but if a guy is having trouble getting busted alot then maybe them CB's would appeal to him. Lots of guys went out and lined up like kids at the candy counter to buy them. Alot of them same guys are having problems with them. All have also said Bow Techs costumer service sucks and then add in that savage arms bought them out and that is way to much money to spend on something with that kind of past and unknown future.

I don't care for them, one is too heavy and comes w/ a sight that is graduated 20,40,60 yds. Imho, 60 yds is 20 yds too far to shoot at deer w/ an arrow. The 2nd issue, the Desert Stryker, has a recall on all previously sold for trigger work. There have been posts about limb issues and lack of customer service on Bowtechs part on AT, just ask Rick, aka BiggBirddVa. There are several xbow companies that have legendary customer service, hopefully bowTech will get their act together xbow wise. Their compound verts seem to have an excellant reputation.

Also, I don't mean to come across like I dislike the Stryker, I just cautioned people to wait a little to give them time to work the bugs out. I honestly think in a way the Stryker is one of the many best things that can happen to the CB movement. Our main resistance IMO is fed by the vertical bow makers knowing that the CB cuts into there pie. The more vertical bow makers that start making CB's like bowtech did and the resistance will start to fall and they will not give money to the anti movement to stop the CB. I agree with Dan that the 60 yards is misrepresenting what a CB can or should do. The more guys we can get to get on board the better, kinda.

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

The difference between a stryker and a vixen is like the difference between a PSE silverhawk and their new X-Force, more speed means flatter shooting less hold over between your pins. Anyone who says different is probably still using an Intel486 and would never use a Intel p4 or atleast a p3. Lets face the fact that vertical bows are pushing higher speed why should'nt X-bows, look overall at industries will a 30-06 outshoot a 300 savage, a Stryker will and has taken deer at 60 yards is Bowtech's service there yet no. Shotgun slugs are pushing 2000fps and capable of 100 yard kills. Don't understand why most of you are so against speed, is it fear of White tail extinction or is it the have's and have not's.

My 2 cent's

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

Nothing wrong with technology or speed. There is so much competition for bow speed nowadays that speed is AHEAD of technology, kind of speed at any price situation. Mechanical things tend to suffer failure when pushed beyond their design limits, be is burned out barrels in guns or broken limbs in bows. Seems to me there have been numerous issues with trigger recall and cracked limbs associated with Stryker posted here and elsewhere. (As well as numerous repair under warranty problems). If speed (&/or the need to impress others) under those conditions is worth $2,000 is an individual call. Me, I'll stick with the tried and true for now. Particularly if their maker stands behind their product, no questions asked, if the need develops.

awshucks 01-04-2008 07:38 AM

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

I've never been opposedtoo much withthe speed of the Stryker, just that 20,40,60 yd red dot on it. I think new guys will buy that thing thinking they can shoot deer at 60 yds w/ it. Imho, they shouldn't try. If a deer can duck a arrow going 350 fps at 30 yds, and they can, doubling the yardage to 60 [100% increase] while going up in fps by 50 fps [14% increase] ain't gonna work. Have guys shot deer w/ Strykers at 60, I'm sure some have. Not for me,I much prefer the close ones or none at all.

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

There were some problems when the Stryker first came out but I haven't heard of any lately.
I love the looks, features, and speed of the Stryker.
While 405 fps may seem fast to some, it is still dead slow compared to any firearm.
It's muchslower than an air rifle as one guy pointed out on another site to put it in perspective.
The main advantage of the Stryker, hunting wise, is that it will blow thru both shoulders of a deer making for better recovery if your shot should be off.
To me, that makes the Stryker a more humane killer than other crossbows or compounds.
Of course, I'm talking the same hunting distances as those other weapons.
Not 60 to 80 yard shots !

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

comparing a bow and/or its projectileto any kind of afirearm is kind of pointessto me, and even a little silly...

I dont mind strykers but Idont see the need for all that speed myself, I could push the technological advancment of my lawnmover until it puts out 200+ horse power too, but whats the point, all itis is unneeded overkill just to mow my grass...and the mover I have does as good a job as canphysically be done now...
in the same regaurd, the crossbow I have now does the job just as good as anything aroundthats faster/more powerful, probably better...

I see this high power/speed has a disadvantage actually, an arrow is actually a very un-efficient projectile and the faster/more violent you release it and force it through the air the more erratic its flight, I'd think that setup would be very unforgiving and that to be able to keep goodaccuracy thebow/arrowsetup would have to be spot-on

IMO all this "high speed" in crossbows is more or less just a fad, and has alot more to do with the male egoand having to have to fastest, most powerful thing out than having any real advantage in the hunting world...

I'm big into motorcycles and I see the same thing in the motorcycle world... every kid around thinks he has to buythe fastest, most powerful bike just to have it, wether its actaully better or not, or wether he can even use it or not is pointless, its all about owning the "badest"...

just my opinion anyway...

I'm more into the sportbike and dirtbike scene myself but I like harley's too, in fact I pretty much like any motorcyle and/or style of riding, in fact alot of guys I ride with ride harley's

I've actually been looking at getting a bike just to cruise around on, unfortunately I'm getting older and my desire to have to ride wheelies and do burnouts everywhere I go is started to lighten up a little... I'm finding theres alot of times that I just what to go out for a comfortable ride and that sportbike just isnt the answer for that, especially after messing my wrist up, its kind of hard to ride it for any length of time anymore

this is me and a buddy of mine a few years ago sitting infront of my house waiting for a few other guys to show up for a"spring" ride... I'm the one on the blue bike, and yes, that is snow on the ground... :D

RE: Stryker crsoobow?

You just opened a can of cr2p.....I got all the block out,put a 8ftx6ft block area in front of sliding door and need to leavel out the whole area witch is about14x30ft...BUT now the county wants to drain 3 other big lakes thru our lake......Our lake is spring feed only and is the 2nd clearest lake in the county, anyway they want to run a drainage system witch would raise our lake 6-10 inches in witch my basement and walkout are only 18 inches above high water and there are about 20 other homes that are low on the southwest end of the lake so this bull carp of this draining lakes thru our lake is going to be a big fight with county,DNR,Township and state....If they go thru with this Iam going to go to court and and ask for1/3 the value of my home for the hardship this would create witch would be around 135 thousand.Being I would basiclly have to close off the nice walkout taking away one of the nicesest selling points of my home thus decreasing the value, plug it up and fill it.......so now Iam notplaning on doinganything untill the lakeshore hearing in the end of march.......

Sorry for the bad pic but this was last spring after I started to remove block and the sand is still pushed up to the house, the deck was repainted also and the rip-rap was cleand and reset.....But if they do the drain deal that whole lower part would be gone/filled in.......
Behind the walkout and window is a 28x16 foot finished Bar/Family room and its a totally awsome view of the lake.....Have afew(for thos who want)step out and go swimming in nothing but a sand bottom lake(well atleast 28-35 ft out)then the cabbage starts......Did I tell you guys I bass fish off the upper deck.....yes I do.....The Bass swim between my 2 docks and its perfect if you dont want to go out on the dock......
