Speak up!

You guys are going to have to speak up when talking to me. My new 17HMR blew up in my hands! Stock split, magazine blew apart and out of the gun, ears still ringing for the last 6 hours! Hmmm What did you say???? LOL! I'm glad to be realitively healthy, well physically anyways! Glad I wear glasses. I got pelted with gun powder when it blew up. For anyone interested it WAS an Remington Model 597 LS HB.
When I pulled back the slide and looked the case was not fully in the chamber. It was all crumpled up and flattened. I am amazed that the gun could fire a round that is not fully chambered!
Now where is that ringing noise coming from???

RE: Speak up!

Nope, not one little bit. Stock is even laminated. I left it with my buddy to take to the shot where I bought it. Don't think I'll be getting it replaced by another of the same! LOL, my hearing was bad enough before, its pretty flat right now and it's a still a ringing!

Wow! That sucks!!!Are you going to try and contact Remington about it? Maybe get some free stuff out of that one. You should go to a doc and get yourears checked. I am not one intosue happy people, but youcan never get your hearing back if it is damaged!

RE: Speak up!

Naw, I wouldn't launch a lawsuit. My hearing was pretty damaged already from being a mehanic, shooting so many guns, walking into the firing range without muffs and mostly from being married! LOL!

I call that one selective hearing ;).

Dnk, sorry to hear about your new gun blowing up, hope the ringing goes away with no after effects ( been there before).
Think maybe its time for us old codgers to get out the safety glasses and ear muffs.

Martin

Martin, thank you. I think you are right about the ear muffs! Other than that I am not angry, life is way to good to be upset about something like this. I know I will get a replacement gun so there's nothing lost except a bit of what is left of my hearing. Every day above ground is a good one!

Yup, could have been worse than some ringing ears, glad to hear your OK. I have never been fond of safety glasses but they are one of those things you are only allowed to forget once.
Again, glad your ears and pride took the most of the damage.

Here's another.

Edit, you can see that the shell was not full in battery on firing.

Holy Cow!! Glad you are ok!! Remington will want to get their hands on that real bad, no pun intended, lol. Would have pegged you for a bolt action type rather than an auto loader. Hear all kinds of good things about some Savage models, hint hint.

RE: Speak up!

DNK, man I'm glad you are OK. I too hear ringing all the time from years of shooting guns with no ear protection. Now it's, "The quieter it gets in a room, the loader the ringing gets". Terrible!
But on the Remington thing, I've got friends that will not have another Remington rifle because of them blowing up and Remington not making it good. They say that they used the incorrect bullets or loaded it wrong or other excuses and left my friends holding the bag. I personally haven't had any problems with a Remington gun, but only own one now. An XP100 piston in 221 Remington Fireball. I sold allmy other Remingtons a long time ago. I always thought Remington was good people and maybe they deal with people on a case by case thing so I hope you get your gun replaced with no problems. The great thing is, you didn't get hurt except for the ringing diease thingy. Way to go wearing those safety glasses. Let us know about the replacement progress on this gun. OK?

What martinfaw said I even wear my shooting glasses when I shoot my
cross bows, not so much with the Ten Point, but did with the Barnetts.

Just got a phone call today from the shop I bought the gun from. They are trying to find me Savage LOL!
I had no doubt that they would replace it. I still have two bows on order but I didn't need the leverage because I knew they would only do the right thing.
