Middleton Crossbows
These guys are boasting some pretty impressive numbers, they look like Excalibur clones to me. I actually heard the founder once worked for Excalibur..

RE: Middleton Crossbows
They didn't have any info. on how to buy one. Who sells them?

RE: Middleton Crossbows
I'd heard the same thing, company owner is/was former Excal employee, but apparently that's not true, lol, when I posted that tid-bit on AT, some guy got on me like a herd of turtles, lol. All I know is they have been around for a year or so, and hardly anyone has seen or has them. Sure makes me wonder! Imho, they look so close to an Excal, most of the parts would interchange. Assuming it takes the same amount of machinery/equipment [injection molds, cnc machines ect] I'm curious why there aren't tons of them available. It would seem someone has a lot of money sitting idle. I've read on another forum or two that prospective purchasers can't order them from the web site as they are trying to set up dealers, lol. the whole subject makes me think of the puch line to an off color joke: Sum Ting Wong!! lol. Peresonally, I'm much more intrigued by the new Horton recurves.

RE: Middleton Crossbows
My bow dealer here said he shot one last weekend, wasn't impressed.
He also said the dealer he was visiting owns one, speaks highly of it.. Then he proceeded to tell me a lot of guys are trading in their Excals to get one of these.. I know very little about these things yet, but I do know I frequent the places that would be indicating a revolutionary bow is coming down the pipes, never heard anything of it.. Sounds like a smoke show.. The specs are most certainly impressive. |

RE: Middleton Crossbows
ORIGINAL: Pydpiper .. Then he proceeded to tell me a lot of guys are trading in their Excals to get one of these.. Over 2 years ago, this bow came on the scene, claiming alot of things, including that it would be the best bow n the market within the year. I asked for his tests, data and proof (independant testers) but they would not supply any. I said at the time, I would wait until it had a track record to make an opinion, that I would not form an opinion on advertisments or promotional garbage. I do not thinn that this bow is much of what they claim. If it was, it would be very well known by know. The crossbow world is just too small to hide a quallty bow. |

Hey did y'all notice in the pic of moose and hunter he has compound CB! Junk and more junk to follow! I guess Excal should be flattered by Hortons praise of recurve CB's! They know a great CB when they see it!:D:D:DExcals lead the way everyday! Only way i would have one of them Hortons is someone gave it to me, then i would sell quick to get a Vixen!;)
|
RE: Middleton Crossbows
Now that was my humble opinion! ya knowed that if you choose to buy and own one(pity on yer soul) then its ok. Please just hunt a little further down the woods from me! I don't want my hunt disturbed by nasty talk screaming and loud noise of yer CB being whacked against trees! Reason being it keeps breakin on you at all times!:D[:-][:o][&o]

Henry its true i don't have one or shot one. I do have a neighbor who bought one from wally world, it didn't last a week! Took it back and got that Summit and it didn't last the week and he took it back. Next thing i knowed he had a Ten pt. Titan 4 and seems to be happy its staying together and hitting the target! [:-]

RE: Middleton Crossbows
No really mike, tell us how you feel? LOL! I have said it before And I will still admit it in public about Horton being sucked into the mal-mart game and making cheep CB's for them to sell to people just like your friend. If all his research leads him to a place like wal-mart to buy a CB then I would say he got what he deserved IMO. The new recurve being made by Horton is the testament to sales. I think they are big enough to where there board room worries about profits, and thatruns the show and not what the owner felt should in the begging, I can't imagine Bernard Horton being proud when he sees the wal-mart boxes going out his door. They still say on there site that they feel a wheel bow is better, but yet they are selling a new line of recurves now. You ask why, it's all for money, a market has opened up and they want a piece of it. I think If you get a top end one you are OK with the Horton, but if they did not make that thing any lighter, then they should just pull the plug cause there CB's have to be about the heaviest I have ever held. A man can loose his balance if he puts down a Horton and pics up a Excal to fast, will need to change his footing first.
|
RE: Middleton Crossbows
We'll see when the prices become available and someone reports on the triggers but if these new recurves maybe the ticket for those who are not arrow addicts and just want to hunt. Hey, lets face it Horton has the technology to make a recurve bow as good as the Excal as does everyone else. So the question begs, why don't they?
|
RE: Middleton Crossbows
BTW, I see Middleton is getting great press here!:D:D:D[&:]
|
RE: Middleton Crossbows
TA DA! The reason $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$! Make bigger profits, greed is the need! I reckon their top end CB's be ok! BUT, hehehe Excals are still cheaper! Did i say that! More resonably priced and a fine product they are. There should be an Excal CB in every hunters household in North America!:D

RE: Middleton Crossbows

RE: Middleton Crossbows
Well i am new on this forum, and i would like to mention that i have a middleton bow thew 375 and it does work great, but like any of the bows out there if you push them to hard for to long somthing is going to let go, even on an excal or any other good bow. I have noticed in competion the boys here in ont. canda alot of them anyways run there bows as fast as they can, I know i have been competing all this yr, with a lot of excal and horton friends along with my middleton buddys. And by the way my middleton fires an arrow 35o.gr at 386.6 average, but i prefer a heavier arrow like 413 gr. My bow has performed as good or better as my excal 200 which i do like. As far as copys excal had a little trouble with patents when they first started out too, or did everyone forget about it, seems they did. But the truth is who cares the more companies that produce products for us the better , we as the consumer get more choices and more inproved products from these guys and that is a good thing.
|
RE: Middleton Crossbows
I honestly would be hard pressed to trade in my Excal for any other crossbow after the comittment to customer service that Excaliber (via Dan Miller) demonstrated when they took care of my crossbow.

RE: Middleton Crossbows
yea, that's just smokepole!....
he thinks everything sucks `cept what he has! If you had the exact same thing he had, he'd still say yours sucked! lmao.. I have a Horton and I'm hitting half dollars at 30 yrds with it. (and I just started a few months back.) I do like the excals though, I'll prolly upgrade next year. But the Horton setup I have will Definately get the job done. Just more maintenance and shop time. (unless you have your own bow press) and about 1 1/2 - 2lbs heavier. |

Clones, copies, fakes, despicable business practice, dirty tactics, and certainly not a respectable way to make money. I don't care if it is a crossbow or a soda can, to take another mans work and claim it as your own is low.
I have nothing against the bow, I just detest what it stands for. |

RE: Middleton Crossbows
I'm guessing their first Excal model was the "Relayer"? Couldn't have been a 10 pt, they weren't around yet, pretty much just leaves Barnett and Horton. Doubt Bill T would copy anything on a Barnett, which leaves Horton?? Hotburn is the resident Horton guru, So, Hey Jason!!! Did the Relayer interchange parts on any Horton model that you know of?? Like same stocks or rails, maybe risers??
