Anybody know how this happened. It started last year when I started siteing in my bow. When I would get my bow cocked and then shoot it, I noticed that the string in the middle of the bow started to rip. I took it to the place I bought it and the guy made the things that hold the string not as sharp as they were. It is still ripping and I'd like to know if anybody knows what's going on. I did buy the bow new and it worked fine the first year I had it, but then last year and this year that keeps happening andI have to keep getting a new string thing. If anybody knows what's going on, please let me know how I can fix it.

I don't knowed what kind of CB u have but it sounds as if u have bad trigger assembly. The string holder is cutting into yer string and certainly needs to be replaced. It must be very sharp and thats bad on strings and quickly destroys them.[&o]

I have the horton hunter elite. My last bow was a horton and it never had that problem, and my dad's horton bows have never had that problem. Something could have happened to make it do that. I'm going to have it checked tomorrow and try to find out what the problem is.

Well you say it shot fine the first year and then the problem started. First are you using rail lube? If you do not use rail lube and it is dry it acts like a abrasive and can wear out a serving real fast, the string thing that I think you are talking about is the serving. Now one problem I had once when I first replaced my serving was the guy put on the wrong kind. Shot it about a dozen times and it unraveled too. Took it back and he said the other guy put the wrong kind on, replaced it and after that was just fine. Did not know there were different kinds of serving thread. Your latch could be a problem, but is strange that it made it through the first year OK?

I used the rail lube once, and that was the first year I had the bow. That could be the problem, but I don't think it would be. I'm getting it checked tomorrow, and I hope we find out the problem. If not I'd have to get a new bow and site it in the day I get it so I can get back out in the woods. I'd hate to have to get a new bow, but if it comes down to it, I guess I'll have to. If this ever happened to you and you fixed it, please let me know what you did. I'd like to have this bow for a few more years because it was considered the top crossbow in 2004.

Hotburn76 maybe right about the rail lube. Thats why i asked what type of CB u had. Some of the CB's will sure eat up a string and the serving very quick if no rail lube was applied.

I agree with these guys when they suspect rail lube is one of your problems. Not only will it greatly increase the life of your string but will keep all of your shots consistent. My rail lube is re-applied after every 10 shots.I also own a Horton and have owned several of them. If this was my bow I would contact Horton (1-800-551-7468)- This number was correct last time I called them. They have a good customer service department and knowledgable tech's who you can speak to regarding your problem. I know the the first thing they will ask is was the strings you replaced made by Horton or were they an after market brand ? They may ask you to box it up and return it for their own inspection. If it were me and I had these problems as long as you had them I would have it in the mail TODAY if they asked for it. Good Luck and hope your back in the woods before too long !!!

Got my bow fixed. The guy said that somehow the string was somehow rubbing too hard against the bow. He fixed that and I took about 10 shots and the string has not torn yet. He told me to use the rail lube to keep the bow in better shape. Glad my bow is fixed.

Deer Destroyer, Is it a Barnett? I have the same trouble with my Barnett Quad 400. Have had it about 21/2 years and putthree strings on it. In all fairness I have fired it a lot. Even when it is waxed well that string will get frayed and will unravel, especially when wet. It starts on the underneath side of the string. I keep the rail well lubed and it still happens.
