So why not just post what we know to be the truth about crossbows and leave it at that instead of getting into a big heated debate with them , one that we will never win .. we will not ridicule them or hardly even get a rise out of them they live for this, it would seam the more heated the debate comes the more they like it,,
I allowed myself to get into a similar debate on another forum over bow of choice,, never again at least I hope not, I didnt enjoy it ,, but ended up in one heck of a debate some of you know what Im talking about ,, and there is the off chance that some not all but some of the guys just fell pasionately about this topic, and they have the right to feel this way, some of these guys just like getting this debate started and seams they got to the different forums doing so,, I think the best we could do is to post what we believe to be the truth and leave it at that because when we get into calling names such as fool, stupid , idiot, and such they won ,, and it makes us look bad, what would you think if when serchin for info on say a new type of car and the ones that had these cars , got into a debate with owners on conventional cars and they started callin the conventional users Idiots, stupid, missinformed and such, what would your thought be, nogthing posted on these forums would have infulenced my getting a crossbow, when I was advised to check into if I could get approved for one I started serching for info on them, but I was not a fence rider, I knew that if I could get approved for one I was gonna get one, shooting a compound caused a lot of pain for me,
now because of a certain forum my thoughts of a certain bow has been jaded a bit.. becaus I think the users of this bow are doing it a diservice rather that doing it justice ,, which is bad because it is a terrific bow, sometime we can be too pasionate about somthing and do more harm than good though our intentions are well met.. ayway this is gettin long so will drop it.. sorry so long JMHO

Last year i belonged to DSH and i took the pro xbow stand way before i even bought mine. They just couldn't handle the plane truth and they booted me off! Like i was really hurting their ego about Bows, and tried to show that the xbow wasn't the 50 and 60 yrd. deer killer they had been telling anyone that would listen.[&:]

Dan,,,,, Crossbows were ban by a pope somewhere back in the middle ages as some evil weapon and it seems like it has been there since. Still, we who utilize the crossbow to enjoy the sport of hunting are passionate about it and are tired of having to defend its use to those who would put us in the some classification the middle ages pope did. Instead of turning the other cheek, we take a defensive offensive posture and attack if necessary.

Ditto! I try and turn my cheek but I only have two and I am partial to my nose so when I have to I will post back with harshness. I think if people get warned enough from the mods they will get the hint and realize this is our forum and not a place for bashing!

Crossbows were ban by a pope somewhere back in the middle ages as some evil weapon and it seems like it has been there since.
Brief synopsis: Use of crossbows by Christians against Christians was banned by the Second Lateran Council, called by Pope Innocent II in 1139. King Richard the Lionheart was killed by a crossbow bolt, and that was seen as God's retribution for exploiting a loophole in the ruling and usingcrossbows against the Saracens in the Crusades. Crossbows were the ranged weapon of choice of assassins and Swiss, German and Italian mercenaries - mercenaries that were heavily employed by France against England. England then began employing them as well, as skill in longbow archery went into decline. The English people weren't too wild about that.

When the Magna Carta (the inspiration for the US Constitution) was adopted, it forced King John to expel all his foreign mercenary crossbowmen from the country. English common law banned possession of crossbows by commoners (And all this time we thought gun control was invented by Democrats [8D]). Then, when the Puritans arrived in North America, they imported the English aversion to crossbows and it's been with us ever since.

There is at least 900 years of anti-crossbow law and sentiment hardwired into the American consciousness. Surely you don't expect all that tosuddenly evaporate simply for your benefit, do you?

One of my pet peeves... Calling crossbows 'bows' and bolts/quarrels 'arrows.' Crossbow hunters calling themselves 'bowhunters.' What do you guys think you're concealing? Take a compound and a crossbow and show them to the average man on the street, he's gonna be able to tell which is the crossbow. Bowhunters aremuch more astute and can see right through the smokescreen. It's disengenuous, at best. Call your weapons and ammunition by their proper names. If you can't stand up, stick out your chest and proudly say you are a crossbow hunter, then right there you're practically announcing that you're ashamed of what you use.

I am now a crossbow hunter and it doesn't bother me a bit to say so. You will never, ever see or hear me refer to my crossbows as bows, or my bolts as arrows. It's just not gonna happen. If someone complains about it, I can tell them the truth. Comparing ease of use and performance between today's crossbows and compounds, there isn't a nickle's worth of difference. If one is okay, then the other must also be okay.

The smoke screen is dumb because it winds upobscuring the true facts and makes it look like the crossbow movement is trying to lie it's way into bow seasons. And nobody likes liars.

Another thing...If you start talking about 'winning' when another state legalizes crossbows for bow season, you're alienating people. If you win, by default that means somebody else has lost. Bow hunters don't like losing any more than anyone else. It's not so much the crossbow itself that so many bowhunters hate, it's the feeling that somebody else is trying to shove crossbows down their throat - or up from the other end.

Inclusion of crossbows must be made a win/win situation for allor we'll continue seeing the nastiness.

There. Forgivethe sermon, but that'smy take on it.
