whats your take on the whats up thread?
Well guys, seems strange that all this madness came from no where. Feels like we were a war zone between a few people we never saw before. Kinda strange don't you guys think? Whats your take on this and the people who just appeared? We were all minding our own business and all the sudden missles going over head. This is what it felt like in a small village in Vietnam I guess.

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
Dude you hit the nail on the head! Someone starts a thread thatI have never seen post before, then someone else comes in and pulls out the old billy club and hits us all over the head with how inferior we are, we get christine to come in and clean up the crap, and then the thread starter comes in and says we arnt level headed and shames us! I almost feel used up, like a shoplifted prostitute or something? Were we just trolled?

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
I might be wrong but I feel set up. I hope I'm wrong. I was PMing back and forth with bigcountry and this whole think stinks. Mark, albeit is misguided in his thoughts in my opinion, is a decent guy. He is not a troll like we've seen before. I would like to see on a chart, how everyone got to this peacefull place. Its like someone forgot to wipe their feet before coming into the house! LOL!

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
It's the nature of the beast. As long as we are WE, and they are THEM, this will never end. I have no fear, though. If I were to walk into a mass of them, I know my crossbow is already cocked, locked, and ready to rock!!! I'll get my shot off long before my target turns to run.;)You all know what I'm saying...let them be!!!!! They NEEDus to be them!!!!:)
On a more serious note...yes, I noticed that too. [&:] |

Hi gang.
Well....I've seen this kind of "stuff" with other hobbies I am into.....everyone seems to want to be devided, just no happy mid point. Guess this is why the world is in the shape it's in. Bob |
RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
Oh boy! Another soap box LOL Somebody help me up! I read on every archery forum I can find. Post on a few. Watched this forum and Excal's for weeks before I worked up the nerve to post on an infernal machine I still don't have complete control over. And I realize to all you folks I'm still one of the "new kids on the block". I never saw the starter of that thread or big country post any where else, and like ya'll I'm a little confused too. The only point I want to make is that there are ton's of people out there in cyber space looking for information on the whole vert/horz shebang. Believe it or not, there are even a few verts on Bowsite[s]that are not convinced they want to blindly follow the "party line". Some of them take offense as automatically being labeled "anti" and I for one can't blame them. I look at posts like the one we're discussing as opportunities to tell the truth about the issue, not in the hopes of winning a whizzing contest w/ an anti, but rather to make points for our side to all those folks that are reading silently. To me, they are our resource pool. The more irritating and rabidly fanatical the other side posts and we all know most of the major players there, the better we look, as long as we don't get sucked down to their level. I choose to use humor and ridicule them, while still getting my point across. I consider everyone on this forum my friend and will stand behind ya'll and show you respect. I just think we can catch more fiys w/ honey than vinegar. Dang!! Ain't ya'll sorry I'm Irish?? LOL

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
So why not just post what we know to be the truth about crossbows and leave it at that instead of getting into a big heated debate with them , one that we will never win .. we will not ridicule them or hardly even get a rise out of them they live for this, it would seam the more heated the debate comes the more they like it,,
I allowed myself to get into a similar debate on another forum over bow of choice,, never again at least I hope not, I didnt enjoy it ,, but ended up in one heck of a debate some of you know what Im talking about ,, and there is the off chance that some not all but some of the guys just fell pasionately about this topic, and they have the right to feel this way, some of these guys just like getting this debate started and seams they got to the different forums doing so,, I think the best we could do is to post what we believe to be the truth and leave it at that because when we get into calling names such as fool, stupid , idiot, and such they won ,, and it makes us look bad, what would you think if when serchin for info on say a new type of car and the ones that had these cars , got into a debate with owners on conventional cars and they started callin the conventional users Idiots, stupid, missinformed and such, what would your thought be, nogthing posted on these forums would have infulenced my getting a crossbow, when I was advised to check into if I could get approved for one I started serching for info on them, but I was not a fence rider, I knew that if I could get approved for one I was gonna get one, shooting a compound caused a lot of pain for me, now because of a certain forum my thoughts of a certain bow has been jaded a bit.. becaus I think the users of this bow are doing it a diservice rather that doing it justice ,, which is bad because it is a terrific bow, sometime we can be too pasionate about somthing and do more harm than good though our intentions are well met.. ayway this is gettin long so will drop it.. sorry so long JMHO |

Last year i belonged to DSH and i took the pro xbow stand way before i even bought mine. They just couldn't handle the plane truth and they booted me off! Like i was really hurting their ego about Bows, and tried to show that the xbow wasn't the 50 and 60 yrd. deer killer they had been telling anyone that would listen.[&:]

Dan,,,,, Crossbows were ban by a pope somewhere back in the middle ages as some evil weapon and it seems like it has been there since. Still, we who utilize the crossbow to enjoy the sport of hunting are passionate about it and are tired of having to defend its use to those who would put us in the some classification the middle ages pope did. Instead of turning the other cheek, we take a defensive offensive posture and attack if necessary.

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
Crossbows were ban by a pope somewhere back in the middle ages as some evil weapon and it seems like it has been there since. When the Magna Carta (the inspiration for the US Constitution) was adopted, it forced King John to expel all his foreign mercenary crossbowmen from the country. English common law banned possession of crossbows by commoners (And all this time we thought gun control was invented by Democrats [8D]). Then, when the Puritans arrived in North America, they imported the English aversion to crossbows and it's been with us ever since. There is at least 900 years of anti-crossbow law and sentiment hardwired into the American consciousness. Surely you don't expect all that tosuddenly evaporate simply for your benefit, do you? One of my pet peeves... Calling crossbows 'bows' and bolts/quarrels 'arrows.' Crossbow hunters calling themselves 'bowhunters.' What do you guys think you're concealing? Take a compound and a crossbow and show them to the average man on the street, he's gonna be able to tell which is the crossbow. Bowhunters aremuch more astute and can see right through the smokescreen. It's disengenuous, at best. Call your weapons and ammunition by their proper names. If you can't stand up, stick out your chest and proudly say you are a crossbow hunter, then right there you're practically announcing that you're ashamed of what you use. I am now a crossbow hunter and it doesn't bother me a bit to say so. You will never, ever see or hear me refer to my crossbows as bows, or my bolts as arrows. It's just not gonna happen. If someone complains about it, I can tell them the truth. Comparing ease of use and performance between today's crossbows and compounds, there isn't a nickle's worth of difference. If one is okay, then the other must also be okay. The smoke screen is dumb because it winds upobscuring the true facts and makes it look like the crossbow movement is trying to lie it's way into bow seasons. And nobody likes liars. Another thing...If you start talking about 'winning' when another state legalizes crossbows for bow season, you're alienating people. If you win, by default that means somebody else has lost. Bow hunters don't like losing any more than anyone else. It's not so much the crossbow itself that so many bowhunters hate, it's the feeling that somebody else is trying to shove crossbows down their throat - or up from the other end. Inclusion of crossbows must be made a win/win situation for allor we'll continue seeing the nastiness. There. Forgivethe sermon, but that'smy take on it. |
RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
Arthur, you are obviously an intellegent and educated individual. So you must be aware that you can have your opinion and others can have theirs. As long as we all can agree to disagree the world is a better place. When we try to force an opinion on another its like an attempt at a dictatorship. Soooooo........ I'm ok with your opinion.

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
So one side of the story is that one individual comes to a forum (not this one but another of HNI and starts bashing, that basher ends up here being followed by the bashees. So we poo innocent non-bashers get bashed buy the bashees becasue the basher ends up here, apparently. Still suspicious in regards to what Hotburn said earlier. I wish all of them would bash-off.
Anyone notice how many hits to this thread??? Kinda bashpicious if you ask me! A word about bigcountry. I think he has a good heart but a bit miss-directed. He wants first crack at the deer. If stick bow hunters here had a two week season before all of archery I would not have a problem with it at all. He is not a true basher like someone we have experience with earlier. Now this guy on AT has stated that he would rather sit in the woods with a bow he couldn't use rather than use a crossbow. Bigcountry has told us that when the day he cannot pull back his bow he will be using a crossbow. There are more people starting to use crossbows as the days wear on so we (me too!) are going to have to be more tolerant and win these people over more gently rather than what we'd like to do. Anyways, if the big guy comes around again I will certainly try to do better. |
RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
here is some food for thought the bashers as they are being called appare to be gone or have been banned , and yet this continues on ,, why??? the original thread is all but dead and then this one gets started up.. I bet they are having a hay day sitting back and watching this..

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
When confronted by ignorance and prejudice just do what I do , I don't worry about it .
Enjoy your hunt and learn from others , it's nobody's business but your own what you hunt with or how if you aren't breaking the law . |

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
I live in MA and I don't shoot a deer with a bow every season.I usually end up the season after PA and ME with a little meat in the freezer if I am lucky. Time is oh so limited and If I can get a leg up even slightly, I'm gonna take it. Will still hunt with the Hoyt V-Tech some but when blackpowder comes around, I won't be using flint. IPick up my Pheonix tommorow. Never hunted with a crossbow.Have permit will try it. It's like a world full of saints and people living in glass houses should not throw to many rocks and it just gets us squabbling with our own kind. My gun club does not even allow crossbows on any of the ranges. GEEZ.

RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
Hey.....some people don't even like their own mom or dad , or sisters or brothers...their kids or wives......so how are they gonna like us. We're not using a xbow here to be liked or loved.....heck with 'em.
I'm going to enjoy myself to the upmost when I'm out in the woods and just be the sportsman that I am and be proud of it. As long as my hunt is legal and in good faith......whats to worry. Ones life can change instantly.....tomorrow is promised to no one.....GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY EVERY MOMENT. BOB |
RE: whats your take on the whats up thread?
AMEN, BOB! THAT IS EXACTLY THE ATTITUDE EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE! YOU KEEP SPREADING THAT OUTLOOK AND IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL, PRETTY SOON EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY, WHETHER THEY WANT TO OR NOT! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
