I would have answered, and don't own one, but think I would hunt with one if it was legal in NY. I know it is in Ohio, my home state, just wondering what other states allow its use besides disabilities?[8D]

I joined long before this forum came online , but I'm delighted to see it .
JLmoore1956 , Indiana has allowed them for several years now for deer , they've been legal for all other game even longer . Don't hold your breath waiting for NY to liberalize them , their bow hunters lobby is very anal and too strong right now . Check the Northeast forum sometime , there's a thread on crossbows there .

Yes kevin1 doubt that NYs anal retentiveness will ever go away where the lobbyist are concerned....... and I visited the site in NE section. Hey it helps pass time here
If they were legal I would use them for sure, not first choice but think someone mentioned when it is extremely cold would be nice...... and nothing wrong with a specail week or even added to gun season, not sure that gun hunters would mind them, but I might be wrong, bow or gun season or their own, they are hunters and deserve to be out there with chosen weapon! I think most of those guys in the bow hunting forum look down on us guys using a crossbow ... I think they feel that it takes less skill ...of course I bow hunted for almost 30 years before my eye sight started getting to where I could not see my pins well ..so now its me and my Parker MAgum !

Doctor Death, wont catch me looking down, and besides I am approaching the half century mark and everything doesn't work like it use to. So if I ever have to or have the oppurtunity I will use a crossbow, and be happy to still call myself a hunter! There is a lot of skill involved with the crossbow and much practice is needed like a bow or rifle. I would almost say, given some other threads on the bow, that things are easier with compounds then ever before that it might almost be easier for those then for a crossbow...... IMHO!
