Default crockpot venison w/o cream of mushroom

Is there a way to cook a venison roast in a crockpot w/o teh cream of mushroom soup?

We've done that the last few times and I am looking for something different. Could I throw in the roast, add a can of beef broth (maybe 2) and then add potatos, carrots, celery, bit of garlic, onions, etc... along with the seasonings on top of the roast?

Yes you can. The great thing about a crock pot is that no matter what you throw in there your roast is going to come out good. Leave out the celery if I'm invited over though, icky

Do what you normally do but replace the mushroom soup with a pkg of Lipton`s Onion Soup. Put the veggies on the bottom, place the roast on top, pour 2 cups(I only use half the recipe) of the soup mix over the roast. Cook as you normally would.

My wife makes deer roast and steaks in the crock pot with stewed tomatos,a couple cans of mushrooms,1/2 can of tomato juice, 1 green bellpepper, onions, salt and pepper. Can add any thing else to your liking. Serve over steamed noodles or rice, I like the noodles the best, boy is it good. Have it every year at deer camp and no one turns it down. Zeak

Venison and tomatoes...mmmmm...that must be one of the best food combinations there is. I've have venison with stewed tomatoes in the crock pot. It's great. So is venison chilli, and spaghetti and venison marinara sauce. There's just something about tomatoes and venison....mmmmmmmmm...

Could be the acid in the tomatoes breaks down the meat fibers making it more tender, hence tasting better.

The wife said I forgot a couple of items in the above recipe, they are 3-4 strips of bacon and some crushed garlic. Zeak

Give this a try, I had it last Sunday & thought it turned out great.
This recipe is out of Jim Zumbo's Amazing Venison Recipes cookbook.
Easy Venison Roast
3-pound venison roast
1/2 medium onion sliced
2 celery stalks chopped
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon A-1 sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Place Roast in crock pot or slow cooker. Add all ingredients and simmer 6 to 8 hours or until tender. Serves 6 to 8.
