any tips for making meatloaf?
i have never tried to make it myself before. i have a seasoning packet and will follow their directions, but i was just looking for something extra, or different that you do. i wll be using hamburger or deer burger

You can add diced onions or shredded cheese to your meat loaf to add a little extra flavor.

along with the onions I add some shredded carrot about 1/4 cup, 1/4 cup ketchup,some bread crumbs,1egg, 1/4cup milk, 1tbs mustard,1tbs salt ,couple shakes of pepper.If you like you can lay a few strips of bacon on top. Never used a packet,what kind? tell us how it comes out, always looking for new reciepes.

we put onion soup mix in ours with a little rice and chucks of cheese.

There are several things you can add to meatloaf to give it different flavors. Try adding horseraddish(fresh if possible), how about jalepenos or mabe pesto. Any flavors added will be good. Just don' t ruin it by smothering it in catsup.

Here' s mine...
2 lbs hamburger, 2 cups fresh bread crumbs (4 slices), 3/4 c onion, 1/4 c green pepper, 2 eggs, 2 Tblspn horseradish, 2&1/2 t salt, 1 tsp dry mustard, 1/4 c milk, 1/4 c ketchup. Combine thoroughly, shape into loaf, put in shallow baking dish, spread 1/2 c ketchup on top. Bake 50 minutes at 400 degrees.:) |

Hot sauce spices up a meat loaf nicely.
Also, and this sounds weird, you can add a couple boiled eggs. Just boil them before you cook the meat loaf and then put them in the middle before cooking...peeled. When you slice the meat loaf, it looks really cool, and tastes good too. |

Add a can of Mushroom soup, bread crumbs and onion soup mix

Pro Line A friend of mine does the same thing and also puts a can of baked beans around the meatloaf while baking, we used to bring this with us up to Lake Champlain all the time, First night warm it up in the Oven, then sandwiches for fishing, Meatloaf,eggs,beans and beer, What a BLAST we had.

Mix the ground 2 lbs meat, 1/2cp bread crumbs, 1/2cp chopped onions an egg and a can of Campbells vegetable soup. It keeps the meat loaf moist and adds a lot of favor with little preperation. I use a bundt cake mold ( the type with a hole in the middle) and it cooks very evenly and quickly in the micro wave in 15 minutes. If you want place a couple of slices of cheese and or tomatoes slices on it and cook for an additional minute..

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
Onion, to taste Salt, pepper, savory salt 1 cup cracker crumbs 1 cup milk 1 egg slightly beaten 1/4 cup tomato soup (optional) 1/4 cup catsup or ketchup 3 tablespoons brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon dry mustard Little water Mold beef, onion, seasonings, cracker crumbs, milk, egg and tomato soup into a loaf shape. Place in a pan and over the top pour the catsup, brown sugar, nutmeg, dry mustard mixed with a little water. Bake 1 hour in a preheated 350 degree oven. |

Heres the one I am eaten now! 1 lb Ground Beef(lean) 1 lb Pork Sausage. 1 Large Egg. A healthy splash of Milk. 1 Chopped Onion. 2 Slices of Bread Crumbs. Add To Taste: Parmesean Cheese. Chopped Garlic. Garlic Salt. Chilli Powder. Chrushed Red Pepper. Lowerys Seasoning Salt. Fine Pepper. Italian Seasoning. Lemmon Pepper Seasoning. A Small Splash of Olive Oil. A Small Bit of Ketchup. A Pinch or Two Shredded Sharp Cheddar. This is a good one! Meatloaf sandwiches for days! Nice:)[:-]:) |

Up to a few years ago I could not stand meatloaf![:@] But then my wife came up with a rec. for the best meatloaf I have ever had. I mean it is great. I know she gets tired of me asking for her to make it. I dont have the rec. right now but I will get it and get back to you.
