Piney, anything liquid or wet I freeze first. That includes Venison, Fish and even Stringbeans,after they've been blanched.
I nuke 1 qt of beans for 2 minutes in a bowl and then bag them and freeze. They come out great and is easier than blanching.

Can freezing time be extended even further by defrosting, cooking and refreezing ?

Vacuum sealer is the way to go

Vacuum sealed here as well and have had it for well over a year after I initially froze it.
