You guys are right that the arrow tip is still pointed in the direction of the target,BUT the string is not continuing in the same path as the arrow,AS A RESULT OF THE TORQUE.Now the arrow is trying to right itself and fly straight with the string.This is where the arrow closest to the rest will have an advantage,it doesn't have as much to overcome as the arrow that is well out in front of the rest.
This isn't even considering the fact that you are setting much closer to the balance point of the arrow and that will affect the forgiveness also.If you were to get behind the balance point,the arrow would do a considerable nose dive as it left the string.If you are well out in front of the balance point,the bow and arrow are working together and not fighting each other.
