Thought Police?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like the though police are present? I’m talking about locking all of these forums about crossbows that got locked. I agree it was getting ridiculous but I don’t understand why they had to be all shut down. They were rather entertaining at times.

BTW if this gets locked we my question will definitely be answered.

RE: Thought Police?

You may want to read the rules and if you have an issue with a thread getting locked or a particular moderator you should contact then via PM.

Rule 5: No discussion or challenge to our editing policy are allowed within the forums. If you disagree, or want clarification as to why a particular topic, post or individual was removed, you must email [email protected]. HuntingNet.Com moderators, administrators and staff will NOT respond to any inquiries or challenges of these rules or decisions on the public forum. However, we will respond to email inquiries.
I have little doubt that this thread will be lock and deleted.

I’m not trying to stir up crap.. Really. But that answers my question. They definitely are present.

I have not seen the rules but I’m gonna check them out now

RE: Thought Police?

I won't delete the thread becuase I feel it is worth responding to.

First of all, the "crossbow" threads were allowed to run their course for several weeks with little to no "thought policing" of people's ideas or opinions on the matter. However, after more than 100 pages of replies and the same arguement being hashed out over and over it became quite apparent that nobody was going to "win" and the only thing those threads were doing was giving people a reason to argue with one another. If the problem couldn't be properly addressed through more than 100 pages of content, it was time to give it up.

This Forum isn't here merely for it's entertainment value. It is here as a place for people who bowhunt to get together and share stories, tips, suggestions, ask questions, and meet new people with similar interests. It's not here as a place for people to argue for weeks on end about a topic that will never, ever be agreed upon, and it is certainly not here to entertain you when those situations arise.

Last but not least I want to remind you all that one of the biggest threats facing the sport of hunting in general is the segregation of hunters within ourselves. If we worry too much about fighting against each other instead of uniting our efforts to support hunting as a whole, before you know it there might not be anything left to fight for.

Now if you have any further comments or issues regarding this issue, feel free to PM or email me and we can discuss it privately.

If you follow the link in the quote in my post you can email them and they will respond. I'm guessing that the size of the post and it's never ending nature led it to be locked but that's not my call. The mods here keep the board clean and running smoothly. I've seen it get less then civil here and I for one appreciate the thankless job they perform.

RE: Thought Police?

I think there is huge difference between arguing/debating your views on a topic and the segregation of hunters. When it comes down to it, I think all hunters will join and fight whoever presents the challenge to the sport, whether they agree on certain topics or not.

I think the xbow threads were helpful and enlightening to some people. I agree the 100 pager needed locked, but not all.

Justin 04-12-2005 08:56 AM

RE: Thought Police?

Why wouldn't the others need to be locked as well? There were in essence 4 or 5 threads on the same topic, discussing virtually the same thing. Lock one, and people simply move to the others and pick up where they left off. People had plenty of time to express how they felt about the issue and quite simply it was time to move on.

RE: Thought Police?

Don't worry about the crossbow threads being locked... it's just time for you guys to start arguing about Mechanicals vs. Fixed blades or Mathews vs Hoyt vs Bowtech or if you're on the Trad forums you can argue about the ethics of Howard Hill and Fred bear or are Black Widows worth the money?

There's always fenced hunting to argue about. Creation vs evolution. ATVs. Gays in the military. Skippy vs Jif. Great taste vs Less filling.

After you get done with those topics.. you can start another crossbow thread.

BTW, we prefer to be called 'Forum Nazis'.

Are you sure? I seem to remember a "Ground Hunter" who was banned for refering to a moderator as a Nazi

I agree with DC, I think when it comes to push and shove all hunters will be united.

Hmmmmm.... whatever do you mean. I prefer to think of them as "MY almighty protectors". Heck, if it weren't for them I might hurt myself. Ya see, there's those that use power wisely.... and then there's those that abuse power wisea$$edly. There are leaders and then there are power hungry self absorbed nitwits. Fortunately, we don't have many of them. Get over it and go on. Just make your mental notes and put the big ignore on them. YOu wonder what some of these almighty protectors would do in a real emergency. Their total world is deleting a thread.... such as a friendly discussion on a legal weapon in some states and not so legal in others. While we're at it, I suggest we eliminate all talk of Hearts or Pitch or Go Fish. I mean, these card games will lead us to Vegas and sin. You want your kids to become sinners... you just keep letting them play Go Fish. It'll be the ruin of them I tell ya.

RE: Thought Police?

Call it or them what you want but this is a private enterprise and you are not entilted to a straight answer. There is a good chance you will not get one either.
This is a private operation and the administration can control what is posted here within the rules or just as they may feel at any given moment.
I was ban for thirty days and so be it. The thing is I never got a notice from the mod that ban me (whomever that is) or had any of my post edited or deleted so as to give me a clue as to why I was ban. Still do not know.
The admin told me personal attacks at a specific member. Go figure, I had not been involved in any such thing at or near that time. I requested a clarification so as not to cross the line agian if indeed I had. Still waiting.
Now I did e-mail the admin like the rule directs. After a couple of weeks I got an answer that basically told me that he trusted his moderators judgement. What judgement?Never found out what "judgement" that was or which post broke the rules.
My point is they are the thought police. If they think what you posted was improper or just not what they want to see, lock it up, delete it, edit it and if they so feel like it ban the person. They are under no obligation to give you an explanation of any type. They can apply the rules to whom they want when they want for whatever reason they want.
Not a good business practice but such is life.

well, my 2 cents is that those 100+ pages were not just arguing and senseless BS. I think when its all said and done, the points that I made, and the points others did too, on the Facts on crossbows will still ring in peoples minds long after the threads die. People DO change their minds on things, they did when they allowed compounds into archery season, and several states are talking about letting crossbows in thie year, like some states did last year. Compound groups will fight it ......... but WHY is the question that remains unanswered.

I actually agreed with locking that thread. Why ? It was seriously glitching and slow becuase of the sheer length of it ! Other than Mod's picking on people for no reason, can't complain too much about Hunting.Net moderating

BTW - did anyone else notice that the guys that didn't miond crossbows, that realized crossbows didn't affect their hunting, and didn't affect their archery seasons negatively ........ those guys lived in crossbow states ? Firsthand knowledge of the impact instead of just unfounded fears -

Here we go again with the "ALL MIGHTY" datamax thinking he knows more than everyone else. He just cant let go.

Is it possible that we could let this thread stay on topic data? Or can you not resist with your crossbow and I know more that you and you dont even know why you have your own opinion crap.

well, the thought police were polite, but firm and reasonable with me when i did something really funny, but against the rules. i was polite in return and didn't break that rule anymore, but what i did still makes me laugh, and they said that wasn't against the rules.

its kinda like when you ask a game warden who is harassing you, " is it illegal for me to call you a son of a *****?"
"yes it is"
"is it illegal for me to think your a son of a ******?"
"no"
"well, then i think your a son of a ******."

you just gotta learn how to stay within the rules.

did i just break any? i hope not
