Camp got broken into
#1
Well, we have had the camp for 5 years now with no problems as far as break ins except for one bear. Sometime between Dec. and today someone, not a bear, broke in and made a mess according to our neighboring camp. The guy who discovered it is a cop so we know it is legit!!! We will be heading up this afternoon to see what is missing and how bad the damage is!! I know we have chain saws, generator, and a bunch of other stuff that we left there. I hope nothing of importance is missing and it was just a bunch of kids out for a good time looking for booze or something. Just pisses me off that they have to go out in the middle of nowhere and destroy something you work hard for!!! Some day it is going to turn around and be them it happens to. We live in a small community so if someone around here did it we will eventually find out. People just don't keep there mouths shut which in our case would be good. Sounds like they broke in the neighbors and possibly the other neighboring camp. I don't think they knew they were messing with law enforcement property, they better hope they don't get caught!!!

That is the very reason we leave absolutely nothing of value in our camp. all they would get are some old pots and dishes and maybe the propane fixtures like stove and lamps. Thats the world we live in now. Some of the remote camps don't even lock the door in case someone has an emergency and needs shelter. Unfortunately mine is close to the road.

I set mine up with an alarm system that calls my cell, my house and 911. I also insured it. It is a shame we have to go to those extremes to keep punks away from our things. Hope you catch them!

Well I just got back from camp and found they kicked in the back door and busted out a window. Why they decided to come in both spots beats me. Luckily nothing was stolen as far as we can tell. Looks as though they were looking for money, medicine (pills), or booze. All they found was a bottle of Ibuprofin that they had dumped into a tray and left there. The camp was a mess but not as bad as I expected. They had every drawer, door, tote, box etc. opened and gone through. My thoughts are it was kids!!!
Our camp isn't locked up tight. Yes we have deadbolts and door locks but that is to keep the honest guy out. If someone wants in, and they did, they could go through a window or bust in the door with no problem. There would be no reason right now to go to extreems to try and keep people out because they could get in anyway. Hopefully we can catch who did it and teach them a lesson!!! We are just thankful that nothing was missing and that they didn't destroy the place. We had the mess cleaned up fairly quickly and got the door and window fixed up for the time being.
It is a shame that we would have to go to extreem measures to keep people out of our property, but as was said before, that is what has become of the world we live in. I hope that it never happens to any of you, EVER!!!

You may want to put out some false security company yard signs and window stickers. That may at least make them think twice about breaking into your camp house again. They may just move on to another sure thing. Good luck with it.

Your lucky that all they did. I've been talking to locals for years about buying a place of my own in southern ohio. The locals keep telling me to not build anything on the land I want to purchase. They insist that if I were to build anything the area's homeless will either squat in it, or burn it down.
