SErious Question please all the look reply
Hey
I went camping with one of my best friend and his family. And one night his grandpa went out pouching deer i was in the back of the truck and he shot a deer and it was a bambi deer. I felt so bad because what he had done. Does this mak me a bad hunter for what he did??? because myself i would never kill a babe deer??? |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
your not a bad hunter. but if you are with poachers and don't report it to the local law enforcement. then your a poacher too in my book.

killing a fawn dont make ya bad,but runnin around with poachers does!

RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
I would not associate with your friend or family if they commit these type of crimes. Legally and ethically speaking, you should turn him in to the authorities.

Even law enforcement would consider, "Birds of a feather, flock together". I'd part company with them, but quick!
If you don't, you'll soon find yourself finding some sort of justification for their wrong doings. We all have to abide by the laws of the land. If you don't like the laws, then you need to take it up with your representatives to see about getting them changed. Good hunting, Bowhunter57 Guns cause crime, like silverware causes Rosie O'Donnell to be fat. |

I turned in my Uncle for poaching a long time ago. I don't think poaching is right and it don't matter who it is. Call your loacl G&F and report it if its bothering you that much. If nothing else, a call/visit from the G&F might sober him up to the wrongness of poaching.

RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
I am with the others on this turn him in.
You are just lucky a warden did not come just after the shot or all of you would have landed in the deep end. What he done was a serious crime and he deserves everything he gets in my books. ![]() |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
I had an ex-buddy that got caught spotlighting a mechanical deer decoy. His friend never got out of the truck. When this guy shot at the deer lights came on and game wardens came out from everywhere. Both were handcuffed and taken to jail. Both were treated as if they had done the shooting together. Both lost their hunting licenses, guns, and paid hefty fines. One definatley deserved it and I was glad to see him get caught. The other was in the wrong place at the wrong time and even though he had nothing to do with the crime (He even asked the other guy not to shoot the deer) still had to suffer the consequences.
If you don't turn this guy in you should at least talk to him about what he did and give im your opinion. You're in a very tough spot so go with your feelings on this and do what you feel is right. |

Mossberg,
I'm also guessing that you are at a young age and really just don't know how to comfront the grampa. If this is the case, talk with your mother, dad, aunt, or uncle (whoever) and explain the seriousness of the crime committed and make sure that they understand what your punishment woulda been if the grampa had been caught when this crime happened. Make sure that whoever you talk with knows your feelings on this matter as well. Any half-way responsible adult will either confront the law or the grandpa about the issue, and as far as you're concerned at this point of your life, you have properly dealt with the issue. Even though you might be at a young age right now, it doesnt mean that you cant stand up for what you believe is right, especially since it appears that you are being forced into doing so with all that has happened. If the gramps and the best friend gets mad at ya, well so be it, let 'em. The kind of guys that a young man needs to be around are ethical hunters/sportsmen that respect the game that's available for all hunters to enjoy. Do yourself a favor and come clean with this to someone that will help you. GB Smack 'em where it hurts! |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
The other's are right, poacher's only hurt what we as sportsman fought so hard to get and keep, I understand your position with the friend but if he's any kind of friend he'll respect your view if not then he wasn't a true friend like the fellow hunters here.

RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
These Guys are steering you in the right direction.
If you are a young man, then get help from a trusted adult. If you aren't, then you should have known better. I HAD a hunting buddy that I seen spotlighting does and cutting out the backstraps then leaving the rest to rot. I turned him in and told him I was going to. He still will not speak to me and that is his problem. If you want to do the ethical thing, make a phone call! SF |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
Well sounds to me that you need a new friend, becuz your gonna never be able to hunt again if you keep hanging with that one. And for the guy that shot the deer he ought to be spanked, showing youngters that. Thats not the way to hunt. This is the reason people dont have a place to hunt. Show a lil more respect to the animal. hope you make the right decision, good luck to ya this year ( legally ).

RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
moss, i've done this myself when i was young and dumb. i had all three of my very young children with me. my son told the came warden what i had done. it was one of the best things that ever happened to me i learned a good leason.plus i could hve taught my son to do someting bad. it cost me a lot of money and i lost my hunting rights for a few years, but it made me a better man, and i will never do it again. do the right thing or you will be as bad as him. if your friend gets mad so be it. theres more real friends out there like this board.

RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
I can only see one reason for shooting a deer out of season. Funds are nill and you need to feed your family. Period. This doesn't sound like one of those cases.
When I was young we lived out in the sticks. When times were tough, and they often were, we took deer out of season. Not in the middle of the night and just enough to get by. We hunted for the very reason God put deer and the like on this earth. My father never hunted for trophies and never killed just for the sake of killing something. Only to provide for his family when we really need it. I feel times were much different back then than they are now and our situation was much different than most have experienced. I agree with others that have responded to your post if this is some yahoo just having "fun" nail him to the wall, but... If it was out of necessity (I have a feeling it wasn't, why he would shoot a fawn in that case is still stupid) you should not blow the whistle on this guy. Is this making sense? I feel there can be too radical of a view on this subject. Anyway, I'll probably get blasted by someone for my opinions and that advice but I don't think anyone can criticize shooting game out of season for those reasons untill you've really been there. RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
Mossberg,
If I read your posting correctly, you had no problem with "one of your best friends" grandpa's poaching, but you took exception to his having killed a bambi. Would you please clearify your position, so we will know how to answer your question. |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
I don't know where you are from but here in IL you don't have to give your name when you turn someone in to the DNR
good luck and God bless |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
Good question Newbowhunter! I was wondering the same thing.
You need to buck up and do the right thing mossberg. I'd also suggest finding some new friends. |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
Not to be harsh, but turn him in. He is a criminal and if you don't turn him in so are you.

RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
Ive been thinking about this all day. Have you ever had someone say did ya hear about that big 12 pt shot last week. you say know how did he get him. they say well dont tell anyone but he got him under the lights. Then they preceed an how many racks hes got on his wall and how good of a hunter he is and blah blah ba blah...This makes me so mad. how can anyone that shoots under the lights look up at the rack in there living room and say I worked hard for that one. To me I couldnt even look at him. and these are the guys that have 4 or 5 nice racks on the wall. Put those boys in the woods with me or any one that really works for there trophy or meat and they would be lost. I shot a nine pt 3 years ago with my bow and it took me 7 yrs to get a opp. with several missed and close encounters, and alot of footwork and scouting. now I can look up at that deer and say I worked hard for that one. and be proud. I wish everyone good luck this year that works hard for it. just had to get that of my chest. and remember this PATIENCE and PERSISTANCE pays off

My concern , is that your only concern seems to be the fact that your buddies grandpa shot a fawn.
With 244 posts , I'm guessing you've been around here long enough to know what we think of poaching Are we being baited here fellas? ![]() "Nocked, cocked & ready to rock" |
RE: SErious Question please all the look reply
Young or Old, you know the difference between right & wrong or legal & illegal. Otherweise you wouldn't have asked the question or feel the way you do. I think you know what needs to be done....stop this man immediately. Turn him in to the DNR. He should be an example and I doubt your family would agree with the example he is setting. Whether you committed the act, to remian silent makes you GUILTY in the eyes of the law. Not saying your a Poacher, but if someone else witnessed this and turned pop's in your going with him. Buddies come and go, but guilt will last a lifetime....be ethical. Gut Gramp's before he starts a whole new generation of Poachers or you get caught in a situation you never wanted to be in.
If you feel bad only b/c it was a bambi....well then your wrong too. However i think it is probably the entire event that saddens you. Be strong and approach authority figures in your life that will stand with you. I bet your DNR has a turn in poacher line, so use it and quickly before the evidence is gone! Good luck!!!! |
