RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I hunt and shoot from the sitting position. I set up all my stands for this position. I try to keep bow in lap with arrow knock and ready, if I see deer or hear before they are in range I slowly move into position, but in sitting position. The overriding disavantage to the sitting position I have experenced is a deer directly below me, you cannot shoot from this position. I normally just wait till they move to a better shooting area. I find that I can hunt longer and quieter.

RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I'm with bobcat. I position my climber so I will be offered shots from the sitting position (if the deer come from the direction I think they will) with very minimul movement. My bow is in an upright holder right in front of me so there's less movement getting drawed. If I hear or see a deer behind me, the tree I'm in gives cover so I can stand and get into position.

RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I sit 99.9% of the time, and have never had a problem.I can shoot everywhere except stright behind my tree.I guess it depends on how tired you get and can still shoot.if I stood all the time I could only hunt an hr. in the morning and afternoon. So I sit.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. |
RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I stand about 85% of the time spent in my treestand. I use a bow holster and hold my bow for most of that time too. I can look behind my tree with less movement while standing.

RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I sit most of the time. Tore the inner ACL in my left knee a few years back and now if I stand on it more than 30 minutes it gets painful. I've had to pass up a couple shots because of it but can usually get to a standing position without being noticed.

RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I'm a sitter. I haven't lost an opportunity at a deer because I was sittin YET. I have shot them while seated without problem. I like just being out there, being relaxed and enjoying life. If one slips by 'cause I was too lazy or just too relaxed, so be it, Hopefully it won't be ol mossy horns when it happens. I do prefer to shoot while standing, I try to see them or hear them coming way before they are close enough to bust me for moving, although I know it doesn't always work that way.

RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I have the API Grand Slam Bowhunter and I set the seat up high enough so I can rest my leggs by sort of leaning on the seat section.
In the middle of the day when thing slow down I lower it and sit down to eat and rest for a few hours. As things pick up again in the afternoon I raise it back up and lean on it until dark. It takes very little movement and is well worth the extra confort it provides. SF |
RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
Well I also have the grand slam bow hunter and love it. once you climb you can adjust so the seat has a lazy boy effect, you can set high or low. but I usually sit until I hear movement, I keep my bow so I can easily reach and keep my seat portion of my stand so that I kinda just lean forward and im standing. now with my portable I usually stand most of the time, and sit when i need a lil break. Good luck to all this year

RE: Do You Stand/ Sit in Your Stand ?
I stand the first and last hour of hunting. The rest of time I'm sitting on my lazy arse.
