On NJ Wildlife Management Areas, you must take a doe before tagging a buck. This is frustrating because I always get a shot at a buck on opening day ... never fails.
Herd management aside, I think deer hunting with a bow is a challenge. Does and bucks are both deer in my view. Both are yummy!
Lazy, you would love NJ hunting. You won't see the kind of cornfed monster bucks they have in Michigan but we can take UNLIMITED does here.

[size=4]Like many, I've fought with myself about this same question but have decided our buck/doe balance is soooo far off that I'll take a doe for the freezer....I know, you cant get more deer without the doe, and more doe mean more deer. I would rather let an 8 walk by and maybe get a shot at a really nice deer next year.

I won't shoot anything that looks young. But if she looks like she's been around awhile teaching the young ones all her bad habits like looking up for hunters in treestands, then I have no problem cranking a doe. Even if its the first hour on opening day.

I shoot does, and am proud of each one I kill. We love deer meat at my house and with My record on bucks we wouldn't each much deer without does!!
