Bear Spray

Terry M is on the money... the wind can really reek havoc on the unintended target. A former Cpl., who has since retired, was quick to trigger mace in a scuffle. I knew this about him, but never expected that he'd blast an agressive perp when I had him against the car on that windy dayshift.
This fellow had assualted his parole officer and took off on foot, not wanting to be taken to jail. We caught up with him a few blocks away and had quite a time... only had one cuff on, while I wrestled to pin him to the trunk lid of the cruiser. At that very moment up came a hand from over my shoulder... mace for everyone! Good lord, what a mess. I could hardly see, the perp was blowing nose ropes of snot, and the left side of my face felt like someone turned a blow torch loose. The wind was so strong that it pushed the foam off the perp onto us as well. Not a good day.
I'm just glad it wasn't Grizzley Guard, which is normally about 10 to 15% more active than the mace issued for self defense applications. Pepper foam is a bit worse than standard mace, (effects last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour), but won't hold a candle to the bear rated repellent products.

I have never been sprayed with mace but have been told it is not as bad as pepper spray.. Now pepper I have been hit in the face with 7 SEVEN times....I had to be sprayed in order to pass some training I did in the millitary... The stuff we used was like 15-25% effective and is against the law to sell to civillians... As for the bear... I like the idea of training him though I wouldn't be so brave...Heehee... I have seen alot of bear around my area and have never been approched by them.. We had one a few months back come into the store near my house just so he could use Isle 5 as a rest room....

i usually have a can of bear spray when i'm huntin' this one track of public land...it's got a couple bears but i bought it to protect me from the cows....lol...i know it's sad but after having been trapped in pasture out in the middle of no where with only a bow or muzzleloader i had to do something so i bought some bear spray and a lil fog horn....i haven't had to use it but i will...i figure if it can take out a bear then a cow has no chance.
