Don't bet on it.

That sounds like a very sick deer. Probably very close to death. If the deer didn't spook till you touched it - that means that it's brain was simply not functioning correctly. When you touched it - you initiated a "flight response" -an almost completly reflexive reaction. The fact that it ran away by no means its OK - in fact - what you describe sounds like a severe infection - possibly of the brain - or effecting the brain.

Farm hunter you are probably right. I know the wounds didn't look very old but as skinny as she was, she may have been sick for a while from something other than being attacked. I'll go out there Saturday and drop off a few bales of hay and some corn, if I see her live or dead I'll let you guys know. When I drove by there on the way home from work today, I seen 7 deer run across the road!
