Straightarrow, I would guess that the % of QDM land is actually very small. There are groups here and there, but the amount of land involved is not that much. A very large % of the northern part of the state is national and state forest land. I would attribute the vastness of these lands to some of the older and bigger bucks taken in the north.

I think that the percentage of QDM land may be lower than you would think, but there is one other variable to consider and that is private land where hunting is not allowed. Living in the eradication zone, I saw an eye opening statistic this last June; About half of the zone would not allow hunting of any sort, not just during the early hunts, but ever!! I thought this sounded like a lot but after doing a little road work I found that a lot of landowners in the Hyde area (small unincorporated town near me) indeed did NOT allow deer hunting. I wouldn't go so far as to say half, but definately more than I guessed.

Well Ive heard this said alot, and seen it alot. when a fellow hunting bud comes out of the woods with a deer that you could pick up with one arm, it kinda makes me even more picky, What im saying is that if its young and dumb it lives to see another day. When its old and wise and comes in alert on every thing around it, its worthy of taking to me. and im sure alot of yall know what im talking about. I enjoy hunting but to go into the woods and just slaughter anything that moves is just not me. I enjoy watching deer in the stand if i observe them and there not worthy to me i watch and learn from there actions. Thats the next best thing besides harvesting a nice mature Whitetail.......... Good luck to all
