RE: heart or lung shot?
I never really thought about that...I only killed one deer so far because last season was my first year hunting and i nailed her right in the heart and she only made it maybe 30 yards and dropped but i think ill try lungs from now on.

RE: heart or lung shot?
Lungs, definitely.
The deer I've shot in the heart only have run like a raped ape. Lung hit deer will usually go down well inside 100yds. |
RE: heart or lung shot?
ORIGINAL: BobCo19-65 double lungs, no question. |
RE: heart or lung shot?
i aim about two inches above the 'elbow' on the deer, unless the deer is nervous, then you need to take into account the deer 'jumping the string'. I had this happen twice to me last year, both times on does. I had one doe come in after settling her down over an hour with some bleats, put my twenty yard pin on her belly, and let it go...hit her through both lungs, mid chest. Missed the other doe when I didn't compensate for the string jump. I prefer to aim for the lungs, but I won't turn a heart shot down. they go just about as far either way.

RE: heart or lung shot?
I'd go for the lungs but if some reason i am off target, i hope i at least hit the heart.

RE: heart or lung shot?
Well stated BigBulls and medically accurate. It is always enjoyable to read a message that is backed scientifically and quite precisely, I might add.

ORIGINAL: Rhody Hunter Double lung its a bigger area and they drop quick alot of times i don't lose sight of them 20-30 yards. Ilove it when they stop lok back then drop Can't say it better. |
RE: heart or lung shot?
My aiming point is a heart shot. This makes me concentrate and wait for a clear shot.
