RE: One pin for hunting?????
I use one pin set at 20 yds. Great for whitetails in my woods.

I take all of the guess work out of it and use an adjustable sight. It doesn't have the confusion of five pins plus you adjust it to whatever yardage that you are shooting and hold it dead on.

i use 3 pins....top 15 and under, middle 20, bottom 25 and up
Buck or doe big or small they all taste the same and are a trophy in my book. |
RE: One pin for hunting?????
Several years ago, I almost lost a nice buck due to multiple pins. At the last moment I realized I had the wrong pin on him, quickly adjusted, and brought him down.
Since that time I have successfully used just 1 pin. This year, while setting up a new sight system, just for kicks and giggles I decided to put an extra pin in for the close shots. After a couple of weeks of tuning and shooting, I reached the point of just shooting. I put the pin at the mark and fired....3 times, 3 low misses. Too make a longer story short, I was conditioned to pick up the pin. I did, I picked up the first pin that came into view. It was the 12-yard pin and I was shooting from 25-yards. No more multiple pins for me. Kentucky windage is faster and safer. Edited by - c903 on 09/11/2002 12:44:12 |

RE: One pin for hunting?????
I only "use" one pin, but I set two. I'm basically in the same school of 1 pin set at 25, but I do go ahead and set a 2nd at 40 yards.
I like this setup because: a) I can practice at 40, even though I'll never shoot that far in a hunting situation. b) It provides a point of reference for the 30-plus yard shots, just to reassure myself of the "hold-over" amount. c) The 40yd pin accomplishes a) and b), but is set far enough below the 25yd pin that it never clutters the sight picture or risks being confused with the other pin. |
RE: One pin for hunting?????
I find myself using only one pin most of the time. I shoot a BowTech Pro 40 so one pin is in the kill zone out to 30.

RE: One pin for hunting?????
got a question guys. about how many fps would your bow have to be shootin in order to shoot 1 pin from say 15yds out to 30yds? I know my darton shoots fast enough at 270 fps, but what about my G/E it shoots 245 fps? would that be fast enough for onr pin out to 30yds?
