thinking about switing to fixed broadheads.

I'v been shooting mechanical heads for the last two years. I'm thinking about switching back to fixed heads. Should I do it or why shouldn't I do it. If so, which broadheads do you recomend

I would go back to fixed heads If it were me. I think the fact that a mechanical head is subject to fail weighs heavy on most peoples minds.Thats not saying a fixed head cant fail, but for me ,I rest easy knowing I dont have to depend on the mechanics of my head..
In the past I've shot thunderheads 125's. This year I'm goin to try some slick tricks. The montecs and wac'ems are also supposed to be great heads.I'm sure you will get plenty of opinions. Good luck.;)

Good move double lung. Thunderheads or Muzzy's are both outstanding.:D

I personally prefer a cut-on-contact style head, which is why I shoot Magnus Stingers. They fly great and penetrate equally as good. I'm gonna try out some of the new NAP Razorbacks this year and if they fly good I'm going to give them a shot and see how they perform in the field.

But they don't leave a good enough blood trail IMO. I shot 4 deer with them during the 2003 season and while I LOVED the head and penetration was awesome, the blood trails sucked, all of them. I had to really work the trail to find the deer, all 4 double lung pass throughs.

NAP Crossfire work great for me! Fly just like my field points:D

I shot a doe this fall with them, quartering away, double lung pass through, and she bled more than any deer I've ever shot in my life. Went 30 yards and dropped. When I rolled her over there was literally a stream of blood pouring out of the exit wound. I was very impressed with the blood trail.

I guess it just goes to show that in the world of hunting there is a never a "right" answer. What works for some people might not work for everyone.

hey 4wheel drive...why do you think slick trick is such a good head?? I'm curious as to what kind of results you have had..like penitration, blood trailect.........Thanks;)

i had heard alot about slickstricks so i decided to give them a try i used to shoot spitfires 100grn but found that they were not very durable. i started using slicktricks this past season i had never shot them before and practiced only with field points, and when the moment of truth came the slicktrick did its job blowing right through a big doe at about 23 yards i watched it run about 40 yards and pile up i didnt need to track it. the slicktrick made a real good entry hole and a bigger exit hole. the next day i had a 17 yard shot with the same results, thats when i was sold on them. there are alot of good broadheads out there you will just have to find the ones that work for you like the slicktricks worked for me. good luck

My advice is that you should shoot a fixed position head since any and all mechanicals have one thing in common that they can't get around: they all lose energy at impact more than any other broadhead. Now, that being said, if you shoot a weapon that generates tons of kinetic energy, then you may have a good set-up for shooting mechanicals. I don't know what is the proper amount of kinetic energy, but I found out the hard way. A light lb pull bow and a mechanical broadhead are a bad bad combination. I've shot both mechs and fixed and I will always and forevere more shoot a 100 grn Thunderhead or a 100 grn Muzzy. Right now, I'm sold on the Thunderheads.

While certainly not afraid to shoot a mech head, I am partial to the 3 blade muzzy 100 gr head. I have taken deer with the wasp jak hammer and was impressed, but must admit that I feel better knowing that I have a fixed head up there with me.

Personally, I like 125gr Thunderheads too. I have never had one fail. They can be a bit hard to tune out of fast rigs. Muzzys are also a good choice.

I have used Rocky Mountain 3 Blades-Razors & Ironheads. They do an excellent job.
My son, Brother & son-in-law also use them, We see no reasons to change. good luck in your choice.
